Printer won't collate scans via top feeder. Instead it scans 6-10 different files instead of putting them all together. My other DCP7065n will do it.

you can scan only one doc at atime on this machine.
SOURCE: My MFC 8860DN does not scan or copy but instead says please wait
Turn the machine off and hold menu while turning it on and keep holding it while the machine starts up. This should go into maint mode.
When it gets into maint mode you can try 99 to exit. This is like a soft reset. Hard reset is hitting 01 in maint mode and then 99 to exit.
Let me know if this is helpful.
SOURCE: Document Feeder won't work
there are sensors in the feeder that detect when you set originals in it. if its scanning from flatbed with originals in feeder, then you have a bad sensor or possibly it came unseated, maybe while pulling out a jam or something. there is one black sensor on the original tray. you should see the lever sticking up to give you an idea what they look like. there are 2 or 3 more throughout feeder.
good luck,
razors

Yes, you save it to a pdf file. Configure scan to file to save as pdf, and it will create a single file

I was trying to figure out how to scan multi-page documents to a single file and found this on the Brother website:
Double-click on the ControlCenter3 icon located in the Task Tray to launch the program window.
Click on CONFIGURATION -> SCAN.
Choose the type of scan you require. The choices are: IMAGE,
E-MAIL, and FILE.
The Scan to configuration window will appear.
The SOFTWARE BUTTON tab configures the Scan to button within theControlCenter3 software interface. The DEVICE BUTTON tab configures the Scan to key on the Brother machine. Choose the tab you want to configure.
Under FILE TYPE select an option that allows multi-page documents:
a) PDF (*.PDF)
b) Tiff Multi-Page # Uncompressed (*.tif)
c) Tiff Multi-Page # Compressed (*.tif)
Click OK.
