A variety of issues could cause this problem including but not limited to: being shut off from a system it was previously associated with (inhibited), bad battery, being on an unprogrammed channel, and a fail code stating the radio is in need of repair.

You must buy Motorola software from Motorola. Get a cable from them also. You also must have an FCC License to legally operate these radios. Your best best is to go through a dealer. The FCC License is quite hard to do without a dealer guiding you. It is easy to be ripped off and you must go through a coordinator. If not USA, still go through a dealer. The software and cable issue does not go away, ever.

Motorola AXU4100 - just flashes and beeps after startup, all lights blink on screen and beeps.

You either have a bad or defective battery, or the radio is in need of service. Try a battery from a known good unit and see if the problem disappears. If so, simply replace the battery. Otherwise, your radio will need serviced by a Motorola dealer capable of repairing the AXU style radio. (typical flat rate repair on this style unit is $69)

Best regards.

Fr50 beep

Hello mtnrvr,

The Motorola TalkAbout radios, especially the FR50 and FR60, are notorious for making a variety of beeps when you push buttons and activate various functions of the radio.

The beeps can be helpful when you are trying to operate the radio in low-light situations. But they can also be mildly irritating.

Sadly most models of TalkAbout do not provide any way to disable the beeps. I'd suggest not using this particular radio for covert surveillance missions.

Best Regards,
