Question about Whirlpool GD5SHAX Side by Side Refrigerator
Whirlpool GD5SHAXKQ00 side by side Refridge with built in icemaker, infrared sensor, not wire type..
Icemaker tray won't fill.
Checked that water is on. Unplugged, and turned water off. Checked solenoid at bottom left side - has 190 ohms of resistance. turned water back on. Turned power back on. Little red light flashes on momentarily and then off for what seems like an inordinate amount of time. Never did see it come on again. Heard solenoid operate but only for about 1 second. (Could have been the solenoid for the in-door water dispenser). Heard a second solenoid (slightly different sound) but again it only operated about 1 second. The water line seems to run between the refridge and freezer walls. Might be frozen but I have no idea how I would defrost it being between the two walls.
What is my next step. Is that little red light supposed to stay on or does it flash only intermittendly. Being infrared I'm suprised I can even see it.
Is their a troubleshooting guide?

SOURCE: Whirlpool icemaker
Your unit has infered sensors on the frezzer left and right walls. There is a diagnostic test sheet brown in color in your kick plate. All you have to do is open frezzer door look on the right sensor it should blink twice followed by a 1-2 sec delay,if that is good press in flapper door on right sensor do not block path of infered beam you will not see a beam its invisable.Once you hold in flapper on right sensor the led should be solid. If solid optics are good if not solid led replace optic sensors

using an hairdryer or defrosting the unit completely , this often get
rid of blockage caused by frozen lines fixing the problem.
The water lines can also be unblocked from dirt using a thin flexible shaft. This after defrosting.
If all that does not fix the problem, then you may need to replace the water valve, the icemaker solenoid, or the whole icemaker assembly.
