New to me (used) Ambition 1.0 skipping stitches when in free motion with feed dogs down and sewing in a backwards direction (stitches fine when going forward or even sideways).

You have to be more slow and even speed. The main thing is to not pull on the thread. The top and bottom thread have to work together in order to sew. Try to practice in a forward motion and then backwards. Make sure that you have the right pressure foot being used.

My bottom thread just pulls out when free motion quilting? Top is beautiful. What should I do?

Two possibilities:
1. Tighten the top tension.
2. You've got to slow down moving your fabric around. This allows the machine enough time to make a stitch properly. If you are willing you can increase the speed of the motor without slowing your fabric movement. This allows more time for the stitch to be properly made.

How do I slow the speed of the machine down in order to quilt

How do I fix the speed of stitching? When I press on the foot feed I get almost no speed from it.

unless it has been progressively getting slower, I did have a simular issue. My pedal was getting "stuck" at the 1/2 mark. (wasn't pressing all the way down). Drove me nuts. Took the machine apart, cleaned oiled, cleaned again blah blah blah...when the pedal was the last option took it apart and found a nut from a screw had gotten inside the pedal and stopping it from pressed down. There could be a burr, a nick or something it is catching on.

I have a Bro PE 400 D. The feed dogs do not seem to be pulling the fabric through without me pulling on it. Stitches are very small even when put on a longer stitch. Embroidery Unit works fine.

check the feed dogs under the needle plate to see if there up or down
if there down then the feed dog switch need to be moved to the up position
but if there up,,,then the machine needs to be serviced so the feed dogs & stitches can be checked

I have a Janome 1600P QC drags on a Little Gracie 2 frame

Sorry for your headache. It is the frame. If it is not level, balanced, you have hell to pay. Also it there is a nick in the grooves of the carriage tracks this will cause a machine problem. You may be able to repair the frame, or level it about the old level the table trick, put something under that part.

Good luck
