A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

SOURCE: issues with my compaq armada

Hello Mitchiko

This error message is often the result of corruption on your hard disk. Quite likely including the MBR.

This could indicate your hard disk is failing or just that there was a glitch in your system that caused your MBR to be over-written or corrupted. In any event, w/ an error like this, you're going to need to ...
(01) Test your hard disk to make sure it's OK
(02) Attempt to restore your MBR

There are some great (free) MBR tools HERE.

There's a nice article HERE on "How to Repair your MBR". The author does a nice job of explaining what the MBR is and how to repair it.

Please, let us know if this response was helpful for you or, of course, if you have more questions, etc. on this topic.

Thank you
BJ

Checking disk for error message

Sounds like your computer is running the built in "chkdsk" program which checks your hard drive for errors. This program can sometimes take over an hour. I would plug the laptop into power and let it run its course. If it takes longer than an hour or two, you may have a failing hard drive.

What Asus Model and the OS you are using? Do you have a Windows Repair Disk? First, Remove ALL media, DVD,CD,USB, printer cables, Unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. Any change? Does the message state a specific device that is required that isn't connected? Have you done ANY hardware or software changes? Can you boot to Safe Mode? IF so, use this procedure: Run a check on the hd ( To run checkdisk, right-click on a command prompt icon and open as administrator. In the command prompt window type: chkdsk /r (then press ENTER). You'll be told the disk is in use and asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command prompt window, and reboot.)

Asus eee 900 disk hardware configuration

Have you checked BIOS settings to make sure the right harddisk is selected as Boot Drive ?

You could try installing it on another machine to make sure it's still readable.

Did you change any settings or get any error messages the last time you used it ?

I recenlty purchased an asus U52F - i5, 4gb, 640HD notebook - it's fast!! - I am having bootup issues - on occassion, upon bootup, I get an error message that the "desktop" file cannot be found...

Hi,

This is a windows software issue you will need to reinstall windows, I would back your laptop up if you have any data you wish to keep onto disk and use your recovery disks that you should have got with your laptop. If you have no disks and you can log into your laptop there is usually a program that will let you create recovery disks. Create them and use them to reinstall your operating system.

This should solve the desktop error.

Hope this helps need anymore info feel free to ask.

Your laptop bios may not be booting into the operating system drive or your drive partion may have an error.Try entering into the bios and checking to see that the boot order is still set to boot from Drive 0(Hard drive).During boot up,the bios looks for command to find the first boot device specified according to system settings. You can enter into the setup by tapping the Delete key when u first power up your computer..please let me know how u make out:)
