Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

2 Answers

I have a Kenmore 700 series clothes washer. It doesn't fill with water. The water just keeps on running through. It eventually just gives up trying to fill and stops. Before this happened it would sometimes get stopped in it's cycle just before the first spin. Whenever that happened we would have to manually advance it then it would finish the load fine. But that might be unrelated to the first and more serious problem.

No the water isn't leaking. It's just running right through...I'm pretty sure. I'm not at home right now. I don't have the model # on me but I do have the serial # if that helps. It's: CT3741574.

I can get the model # to you at around 5:30pm today if it will help.

The drain hose seems to be fine. It's in it's usual position, going into the drain thing on the wall.

Thanks for your suggestions but the problem seems to have fixed itself for now. Not sure what happened but I tried to just run a test cycle without any clothes in it and it worked fine. not sure if the problem will come up again. Seems to be working fine now though.

.....Oh except for the other problem that I mentioned: It sometimes stops at the beginning or end of the first spin cycle. Manually advancing it works to get it to finish. Do you have any ideas on what that could be?

  • jeremybrown Jul 03, 2009

    Sorry I didn't respond sooner.

But no, pushing down on the lid near the switch didn't seem to do anything.

    Any other ideas?

And thanks for getting back to me on this.

Hi, I can help you. While the washer is filling, does the water go out the drain hose?

It sounds to me like the drain hose might be lower then the water level in the washer tub. Check and see if the drain hose has dropped down at all.

When the washer is filling, does the water stay in the washer or does it release out the drain hose?

Is the drain hose solid in the wall pipe or does it rest in the pipe with room for air to get in the pipe as well?

The reason I am consentrating on the drain hose and how it is connected to the wall drain is, this sounds like it has created a direct syphon some how. After the washer has went through the drain cycle, air needs to be able to get into the drain hose to create an air gap. If air can not get intothe drain hose after the spin cycle, the next time the washer fills, it will continue to drain the water.

When you notice the washer has stopped, push down on the lid above the lid switch area nad see if it starts. Sometimes the lid switch will be intermitent before it goes out completely. Because it happens around the spin cycle, I would check that first.

The only other option would be to change the timer. I must have a bad spot in the timer motor. Is this issue getting more consistant?

Here is the timer part #280225 and the cost around $90.00.

The next time this act up, try wiggling the timer knob instead of turning it and see if the washer start. Just another way to be sure the timer is the problem.

Does the water leak and drop down? It would be helpful for assisting you if you give us the Model number of your machine.

no
some cycle the agitator during the fill cycle to get better distribution of the clothes as it is filling and then shut of the water and proceed to the wash cycle

Cold water supply valve on? Otherwise, you may have a problem with the washer electric solenoid fill valve.

I have a Kenmore 700 series washer and it fills with water then stops. It's NOT my lid switch. I have tried to find someone with the same washer and same problem and can't find nothing. Can someone please...

If you are sure its not the lid switch, then next would be the water level switch. Once the machine fills, it should switch an internal set of contacts to make the washer run. Last and worst case scenario would be a dead motor.

First ck to see if your water pump is leaking. It normally leaks when the machine is running not just filling. Also look at all the attaching rubber hoses under the machine and see if water is leaking down the back right side of the machine and then running around the frame to the front long shot but possible.

filling and never stops and never agitates? then check level switch and hose, any hole in the clear hose to the level sw can cause this. if airtight then replace level sw.
