Seperate the paper before you load it
Lay the paper down on a flat area ,take the paper and grip it on both edges half way down the sheets
Bring your hands together to form a bow in the centre of the paper, tighten your grip on the paper at that point straighten your hands out
The paper should be hanging down in the centre with an air space between each sheet
That way it floats off the stack rather than being pulled hard
Also do not over fill the cassette or feeder tray

Wash the paper feed rollers witha bit of Gin or Vodka (It cleans and evaporates quite quickly)

I keep getting an error message. It will print one page and then the error light comes on and I cannot find anything wrong with it.

its possible the feed rollers that pull the paper into the copier from the tray isn't picking up... you will see marks on the page where it tried to pull it up... if this is so... or its possible that one of the sensor arms that the paper flips... gets jammed and needs to be reset or a sensor along the paper path is bad... I would start with the paper feed rollers

It is not grasping the paper.

Get some nail polish remover, the cheapest type that contains acetone. Avoid any "moisturising", "nourishing" or other heavily modified ones. If you have acetone, you can mix it 1:1 with alcohol (isopropyl/IPA ideally).
Now pull out the paper tray and look under the printer. You will see a large rubber roller, usually grey, that picks up the paper and slides it out of the tray. Using a soft, lint-free cloth or paper towel dampened with few drops of the liquid described above, wipe this roller several times, trying to turn it around (with the printer turned off) so that you wipe the whole roller surface. If you cannot move the roller, run the printer once or twice and clean the roller again - it should stop in a different position each time. Acetone evaporates quickly, so add a drop or two between wipes.
Also make sure to clean the separator - it's a rectangular piece of rubber on the paper tray - it has to have enough friction to keep the printer from taking up 2 or more sheets at once.
Be cautious not to spill acetone on your printer or any plastic objects - it will leave unsightly marks, as it dissolves most plastics.
Good luck :) Abd come back with a testimonial if helped :)

I have a optras1855 printer and a message keeps coming up 241 paper jam check tray 1. the problem is there is no paper jam. i know this because i have another machine the same model and that does the same...

I'll bet that if you put a mark on the top sheet of paper in tray one and then send a print job or run a self test you will see that the paper stays in tray one. I suspect that you have a paper pick problem.

Worn or slick rollers can be one source or a weak tray supports. Also, take the paper out of tray one and fan the paper to break any static that may cause the paper to stick together.

Feeds ok from tray 1 but not tray 2 which is 11x17. There are slight buffed marks at on the papaer in 4 spots but paper wont advance. marks are about 1/4 inch long

those marks are the rollers trying to move the paper. check to see if your tray 2 is lifting.if it is then replace the feed rollers.

My laserjet 1020 develops a paper jam after printing the first page of a multipage print instruction .I have deleted the printer and re-installed it including all drivers but problem still...

Hi,
Reinstalling the printer is related the Software.
If the paper gets physically jammed than its the driver setting issue or hardware issue.
Check if two sheets get jammed or only one sheet.
If it is two sheets than printer is picking up multiple sheets and paper gets jammed.
If the printer is jamming a single sheet than remove the Tray and look there is rubber roller inside if there are marks or lines on that rubber roller or if the roller roller is worn out than that rubber roller called as paper pickup roller need to be replaced.
If that looks fine than try to priny using manual feed and if the problem persists from manual feed too than try another toner cartridge
If the problem is not from Manual feed Tray that Replace the main Tray with known good Tray and check if the issue resolved.
