You would think they mit would at least be willing to tell us what other battery & charger would work for this drill/driver. their tools must not be as good as they are advertised to be.

why would any manufacturer refer you to a competitors part when they have their own to sell---get real
now batteries can be replaced in a battery pack and there are plenty of battery shops that can do that for you
What's more most will have a generic charger that will do the job if not the OEM charger or can test your charger
remember this --the price of a battery drill is directly related to the quality of the batteries in the pack
a quality brand that is cheap indicates poor quality batteries or if it is a quality brand and has several spare packs again the batteries are of poor quality
so the fix is to visit a battery shop with your pack and charger and ask questions of them

When I put the battery on the charger the light on the charger stays on for little awhile the it starts to blink, but when I try to use the battery it is not charged. So I am not sure if I need a new

Hi there! It sounds like you have our Linx stick vacuum or hand vacuum model. Plug only the charger into an outlet, the blue light on the charger should flash once. If the light on the charger flashes once then the charger is fine. Try resetting the battery by following these quick steps below.

1. Remove the battery from charger or cleaner
2. Unplug the charger
3. Insert the battery into the vacuum and turn the unit on for 30 seconds (even if it has no power)
4. Remove the battery
5. Plug the charger into an outlet, make sure the light on charger blinks blue once.
6. Insert battery into charger

The light should be a solid blue, indicating the battery reset worked. If so, allow the battery to charge for 3-4 hours, completely deplete battery on your next use and re-charge. If the light on the charger is still blinking, your battery will need to be replaced. I have included a link where you may go to purchase a replacement battery if needed. Hope this helps!

Took the battery off of the charger and it was dead, will not charge, only charged a few times

Mike, Would need a bit more detail to give the best answer, but here are some general tips to point you in the right direction. Need to know if you get any LEDs on the charger or batteries, do you have other batteries you can use to test the charger/tool to isolate the problem (even the old NiCads)? Does this problem occur with one or both new batteries? Anyway, read below for some suggestions:

Lithium Ion batteries do not like to be fully discharged even if they are new. If you ran a tool until the battery fails, two problems can occur. 1. The circuitry in the charger and the battery itself senses a fault due to "too low" voltage in the cells, and prevents charging as a protection measure (prevents overheating a shorted cell). 2. You damaged the cell(s) inside the battery either due to sulfate build up or heat. If your Ryobi charger is flashing a red LED (no green) indicating battery fault,

I have found that removing the battery and reinserting it multiple times can help as the charger does a diagnostic when you first insert the battery. This test likely applies a small charge to the cells and analyzes the response, if you do the test enough, it can bring the cells back up to a sufficient level to allow the charger to accept it.

If the battery charger cycles normally but displays a full charge very quickly, the battery may be defective and not pulling any current from the charger, so the charger thinks it's fully charged.

If the battery charger does not sense the battery at all (no LED display) then the problem could be a defective charger, defective (open) battery or corroded/dirty connections (make sure no paint or dirt got into the charger port and no rust on the contacts).
