Question about Exercise & Fitness

1 Answer

I no longer have a manual for this system and need to get it going. It is the chest belt and watch system. I have changed batteries in the chest belt but cannot get a reading from it on the watch. Not sure if I have programmed the watch correctly.

Tips For Your Heart Rate Monitor

First, you want to adjust the fit of the chest strap.

Moistening give a more comfortable fit by reducing friction and will also help create a better connection between your skin and the receiver. It can also increase the lifespan of your belt.

When properly looked after, your heart rate monitor watch should far outlive the chest strap. More often than not any problems you find with the watch can be traced to the chest strap or the batteryIn terms of conservation, the most important thing you can do is ensure that your watch is no longer monitoring after you return from your run.

This should be easily achievable through the interface on the watch. Separating the watch from the monitor component by a significant distance will ensure that no unwanted connections continue after use.

Where possible, make sure to remove the electrical component before rinsing the strap with some running tap water. If the watch and electrical component are particularly dirty, you can use a damp cloth to wipe them down, before putting everything aside to dry. Be sure not to leave the chest strap in the sun as this can cause the material to deform, making it itchy and uncomfortable to wear.

How do i reset and work my polar t31? I have lost instructions and it is 2 years since I last used it

There is no reset on the T-31 chest straps and transmitters. If the battery is functioning then you simply put it around your chest (make sure the contacts are wet) and turn on the watch. A heart rate signal should appear automatically.

If this doesn't work, I have solutions in my tips and tricks page as well as Manuals for Polar products. The T-31 battery may also be dead, in which case you will need to replace.

The picture you have showing is for a S-Series Speed sensor for the Bike. If this is something you are having a problem with feel free to send me a note related to the problem.

Doesn't synch with heart monitor

Hmmm. Trick one without seeing the unit.. The most obvious is that the battery in the chest strap is dead. If it's one of the sealed ones then the whole chest strap will need to be replaced, if not then it'll be a standard watch battery. I should be clear from the chest strap if the battery can be replaced.
If both batteries are ok then try to turn on the Forerunner, put on the chest strap(make sure to lick the back of the sensor or dip it in water to make a solid connection, strange I know but that's what they reccomend). Then hold your wrist wearing the Forerunner a couple of inches from the sensor on your chest, sometimes needs to be for 30 seconds or so.. All going well that should do it.. Beyond that you're into the software in the Forerunner itself and that has to go back to Garmin..

No instruction manual for a LifeSource chest/wristwatch monitor -

Not sure that you are talking about a blood pressure monitor or a heart rate monitor.

The blood pressure monitor that you listed as the device you are asking about the manual is here

http://www.lifesourceonline.com/and_med.nsf/html/WEBB6FKQFC/$FILE/UA767Plus.pdf

if you are talking about a heart rate monitor , which it sounds like because those have watches and chest bands that is something different. i would need to know what kind of heart rate monitor it is. A few tips on the devices, you will need to dampen the contacts on the band, make sure you place it in direct contact with your skin, under your pectoral muscle, if you are female then it goes under your sports bra band. i always reccomend jumping on a machine for a little warm up then starting the watch.

I noticed you said that you changed the battery i hope you sent the watch in to the manufacturer to change, sometimes it comes out ok but alot of times it doesn't work there are sensative devices in the watch that can get messed up very easily.

Nike Triax CV10 - Successful HRM reset 7 November 2008

I had real problems too. Even after repeatedly following the known reset steps everyone else is posting up. Here’s how I got mine going, please forgive the mind bogglingly tedious detail…

First make sure you’re using new good quality batteries. I used Maxell’s, bought in 10’s from Hong Kong on ebay – no problem.

Second, and this is the ESSENTIAL bit…move right away from the computer and any other electromagnetic sources before carrying out the known reset…

Third, follow the known reset steps below, adjusted to what worked for me…

If you press all four buttons of your Nike HRM it will reset. Next time you go to "RUN" mode, it will show "HRM LINK" error. You will now need to "hard reset" the unit.

Nike made a late change to add a "hard reset" to the chest strap. To re-link (re-initialise) the watch you'll need to open the battery door on the chest strap, and use a paper clip (or the equivalent) to push the small gold button in the battery area. There should be a small sticker in the battery compartment that points to the reset button.

The re-initialisation steps for the Nike C10 and CV10 digital HRM's is:

(1) reset the watch
(2) open the battery door on the chest strap
(3) move the watch to RUN mode
(4) press the reset button in the chest strap battery area without removing the battery

Tip - I agree with the suggestion to use a pin or needle and definitely do it with the battery in the hrm.
Tip – Thumb holds battery to stop it from pinging out, other hand performs jiggle with pin until the link is made (it links straightaway if you jiggle it just right!)

(5) replace chest strap battery cover…and smile!

Can Link watch with Heart Monitor

If you can't link the hrm do as detailed in the following link If you press all four buttons of your Nike HRM it will reset. The re-initialisation steps for the Nike C10 and CV10 digital HRM's is: (1) reset the watch (2) open the battery door on the chest strap (3) move the watch to RUN mode (4) press the reset button in the chest strap battery area (5) put the battery back in the chest strap (if it's not already in - it's possible to push the button without removing the battery) (6) hold both of the electrode to create a signal (probably not necessary - it usually links immediately). My suggestion is to use a very thin needle and do it with the battery in the hrm. Eventually, Nike will either eliminate the hard reset or update the manual to include this info.
