SOURCE: how will i remove the virus manually?

i hope you got norton off your system before putting AVG free on. Virus programs try to fight off other virus programs by postiong false virus claims to erase the other program. eventually they will kill your hard drive. You need a product key for a good virus protectant. Norton or CA offer good, reliable protection for your dollar. What i would do, is back up any really important stuff you have there, format your hard drive and install Vista again if you have the disc and then re-install it to permanetly delete viruses. Also your system maybe slow because VIsta needs at least a dual core processor and 2 GB RAM to work like a XP machine

Hi,
These types of problems occurs if the Symantec Antivirus is corrupted or missing. The only way to fix the issue is to uninstall and reinstall the program again. But before uninstalling the program you have to make sure that you have your product key and the installer handy for the reinstallation. You need to download the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall the Symantec properly.

Thank you for using Fixya. you hig recommendatino is highly appreciated.

You are going to need to run an antivirus program that runs before the operating system starts..if you can, try going online on another computer to search for a program called VBA Rescue..this program loads LINUX into your computer and them searches and destroys the virus' . I have had much success with this program as worms are very hard to remove...I wouldn't even try to run your laptop as you may cause unrepairable damage to the laptop..if you need additional assistance...you can email me at jcameo7270@yahoo.com

Suggest you download Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool if possible on to your laptop. To download the version for your laptop's Windows 7 64-bit operating system, click on this link...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=585d2bde-367f-495e-94e7-6349f4effc74

If possible, download directly to your hard drive and then run it from there. If too difficult or not possible, download using another computer onto a thumbdrive which you can then plug into your Toshiba laptop to run it. The Tool is tailored to remove specific infections from Windows AFTER it has been infected. Microsoft releases a new version on 2nd Tuesday of every month and the latest was posted March 8th. Clicking on the following link will take you to Microsofts Knowledge Base Article #890830 for details...

Have a virus on my toshiba laptop, can i resolve this by restoring the factory settings?

Hi Andrewfairwa.

Yes, you may remove all the security threats in the Computer by restoring it to the Factory settings.

But, restoring the Computer to the Factory settings will also delete the Data in the Hard Drive.

Hence, you may try performing a Complete System Scan to check for any Virus or security threats.

You may perform the Complete System Scan by using the Anti-virus Application installed in the Computer.

If you have not installed any Anti-virus Application installed in the Computer, you may perform a online System Scan.

Let me provide the detailed steps to perform the online System Scan.

You may perform the free Online Scan by visiting the below link:

http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html

Please open the above link and click on "Start Scanner".

This will start the free Online System Scan.

Once the Scan is complete, check if the Virus or any security threats are removed from the Computer.

If there are still any threats, then you may backup all the important Data and restore the Computer to the Factory settings.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to ask further questions.

I have a virus on my computer and it wont let me go online. how do i sort this?

First. disconnect from the internet, take out the network cable.
Boot into safe mode.(usually F8 on boot up)
Switch off system restore(at least for now)
run your antivirus on a full scan.(if you dont have any... use AVG Free or Microsoft Security suite free)
Run a good malware scanner like Malwarebytes.
You may need to have access to the internet to download these programs.
If this helps then you can turn system restore back on if you wish(start/programs/accessories/system tools)

I dont know how to remove the detected virus from

If your Anti-Virus software did not do it for you, I recommend that you take it to a professional to have it done. or back up your data like documents and pictures and do a restore back to factory condition, that will also get rid of it. But make sure you have good updated Anti-Virus software on the system prior to putting your data back on to prevent the reinfection of your system.

Hi,

The best way to remove virus from your Laptop is :-

Step 1. Download free version of Malewarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Step 2 . Install it and update it from update tag >> check for updates.

Step 3. After that go to tag scanner and perform full scan.

Step 4. When scan complete click on show result and then click on remove selected.

Step 5. After removal it will ask you to restart your computer. Restart once.

And enjoy Virus/Spyware free environment.

I have a toshiba satellite a-210 laptop only 8 months but it has become very slow to respond to mouse clicks. I am afraid I have a virus

You probably have spyware, especially if you surf the net a lot.

Download Ad-Aware from http://lavasoft.com/

also try spyware doctor: http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/?ref=afl_nenextech

Ad-Aware is a great program for scanning and removing spyware and is free. Spyware Doctor removes more spyware, but cost money for the full version. The free version will scan, but won't remove much without you paying for it. It is a very good program though, and the free program will tell you if you have infections.
