SOURCE: how to clean after an oven fire

Cheryl,
If you can't scrape the plastic off then heating it up to soften it is about your only choice short of putting it back in self clean with a fan in the nearest window blowing outside to evacuate the smoke. Depending how bad it is and how cold it is where you live, you might even try freezing if off. Get it as cold as possible and see if the cold makes it easier to chip off. As far as the element, I suggest turning the oven on and letting it smoke and burn clean. Shouldn't be a very long process since the element will get hot so fast the plastic will drip off right away.
Hope that helps... Brian

My oven will not heat up to temperature

It may be the bake element that has gone out. The self clean usually uses the broil element to heat the oven. And most oven will either put 120 volts to the broil element while baking or pulse the broil element while baking. This will cause the oven to get warm but not hot. Check the oven bake element it cound be bad or a wire may have burned off.

Whirlpool Self Cleaning Oven - Model RF360BXXW Serial # FA4005915 Turned oven on bake - bottom element is not heating however top element is. Tried to change setting to 'timed bake', 'broil' and 'clean'...

Your lower element may be burned out. Generally you can firmly grasp and pull it out. Take it to a repair shop and get a replacement unit. Then simply snap it back into the same outlet where you remove the first one. It sound as if you've tried everything else so it must be the unit that is bad.

Upper oven onlyworks on broil. When I turn the bake setting on, the broiler comes on and not the bake eliment.

could be a bad element or a wire burned out, going to the element in the back of the oven. you will have to pull out the unit to check the wire. turn off the power to the oven before you start. element can be checked from the inside.

Upper oven elements don't heat

Hello- 'Successfully' sounds like you were forewarned....  During the 'self-clean' cycle a circuit or connection to the upper elements burned out while attempting to turn stuff inside the oven to ash. Since this is a wall oven my recommendation is for service from a good tech in your area. You may have lucked out with a fried connector, but many times control board is damaged beyond repair and must be replaced. Only on-site diagnostics will confirm, and this is a very heavy unit for most owners to safely service.  - Remember- Don't use 'self clean'!! Scrape and clean with soapy water and cloth. Turn on oven to 450deg. for 30 min. Much safer. Less costly.       Please acknowledge this post if the info is helpful- Have more if needed.  Thanks-  Ed

Bottom oven doesn't heat after running self-clean cycle

Usually, when an oven won't heat, it's because the bake element is burned out. The bake element is the black, pencil- thick tube at the bottom of the oven. When the oven heats, the element glows red. This element has an expected life-span of several years. It may last for only one; it may last for many more. When the element burns out, you need to replace it.

How does self cleaning work on my frigidaire gas burner stove?

Self cleaning would be better named... Running the oven real hot to burn off residue.. so in essence, the oven is locked out and then heat is raised to a high level to bake out grease and food byproducts so they either burn off or turn to ash for easier cleaning.. Does that make sense to you? Most self cleaning ovens lock out the user until the oven has cooled down to a safe user-friendly level..

or try doing this
1. Turn the clock selector knob to OFF
2. “Tweak” the oven control by turning the clock selector knob slightly to the left (counter clockwise). This may stop the flashing message/beeping and clear the display window.

Self-clean not cleaning

I was wrong (I think).  the baking element probably was burnt out as the repairman said.  He replaced it and I thought selfclean still wasn't working.  In fact, I think I just had to give the self-clean function more time.  Also, I was judging by smell.  We have become used to a bad odor during self clean which was missing when it was broken and still missing after the repair.  Bottom line, the oven was clean after the baking element was replaced, sans smell.
