Simple issue here, there is a micro switch that shuts the light off when you close the door ,it may also open a circuit depending on yuor particular switch that lets the microwave think the door is open. Not hard to fix if you are handy, remove the screws to the sheet metal cover ,locate the switch and make sure that the switch is being made when you close the door.Could just be it is loose, could be the pin that hits this switch is missing, broke or out of adjustment. In any event,do this with no power on ,also these devices can still store power so be careful here .If you are not careful you could get seriously hurt so remove plug and or call someone that has some electrical experience this is totally at your own risk.

Why won't my interior microwave light turn off and my microwave won't start?

It sounds to me that your door switches aren't working.Your oven is protected by a couple of switches that engage when you open or close the door. They control a couple of safety features and also your interior light. One of them seems defective.

Inside the oven. There are usually 3 fuses. 2 are on the board, while one is on a wire enclosed in a plastic twist to open capsule. The fuses in a microwave oven is a little bit specialized. Be sure to get the proper replacement part.

Whirlpool microwave surface light does not work despite replacing the bulbs. I suspect that a previous renter's cat was fascinated w the on /off switch and burned it out. The light switch operates and the...

I am suspecting that your microwave has cheap chinese relays inside and instead of plating the part where electricity goes through with a high temperature metal that is a thick enough coating they used a cheaper metal. When they do that a relay arcs an spot welds itself open or closed. A strong tap on the control board (once taken apart) will release it. I advise to have a look at the control board for overheating, or burnt circuit board traces as well.

F6 appears on my Whirlpool Over Oven Microwave, Model GH7145XFB0. It will not let me perform the self-diagnostic test. When the door is closed, the light goes out and the unit begins the "cooking process"....

If it starts cooking as soon as you close the door, try unplugging it for a minute then try again. If it does the same its probably a defective triac or relay which is inside the microwave.

NTC cover message after replacing fuse in my whirlpool microwave MH1170xsb

The "negative temperature coeffecient" (NTC) thermistor was left unplugged after reassembly or it is defective.

It is the hood thermistor, and should be plugged into connector P4 on the circuit board.

I think it should be at the bottom of the board, on a little tongue-like protrusion, as shown in the attached photo.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here (just enter your model number).

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

MH1170XSB - Bottom 3 Buttons on Keyboard Pad No Longer Work

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is not the keypad, but on the control panel (circuit board), which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

MH1170XSB-0

The most common causes for a lack of heating are a bad door switch, a loose connection on the magnetron, a bad magnetron, bad connection on the control circuit board, a bad relay on the board, bad high voltage diode, or bad high voltage transformer. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383
