Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer
Any recall? Thank you lynn
Wow, you have the most problematic washer ever built. This washer was the actual demise of the Maytag Company. What happened was that when Maytag built these washers the drum was at an angle that it retained a large amount of water the drum. This caused problems with odor, bacteria and mold. There was a large class action lawsuit launched against Maytag to the point that they quit producing the washer and ultimately were facing bankruptcy, which they eventually filed for.
In regards to your problem, unfortunately there is no solution. The water residual in the water cannot be removed, the only thing you can do is make sure the door is left open, this may help in evaporating some of the water... another solution is to take a cup of chlorine bleach and poor it in the washer. "DO NOT ADD CLOTHES!" Turn on the washer to a normal wash cycle. When this has completed then make sure that the first wash you do after this a white load in case there is a residual of bleach... if there is mold on the door seal use a bathroom cleanser that will remove mold... DO NOT LEAVE CLOTHES IN WASHER FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME... THEY WILL SOUR AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REMOVE THAT SMELL ONCE IT GETS INTO CLOTHING!
I wish I had better news for you, but my guess is that you purchased this second hand and were not told of this inherent problem.

There is a liquid counter-weight in the front of machine and it makes it sound like there is always water in the tub. So do not fear it will always sound like that.

Hello Lynn Warner - If your washer will not stop filling up with water it could possibly have one of the following issues: a defective water inlet valve, air leak, holes or defective pressure switch. Does the water stop coming in? If no, then replace the water inlet valve. However if it does, then there are either holes or air leaks in the air bell or pressure switch hose, meaning tighten or replace the defective part or pressure switch will need replacing. Contact a professional to move forward accurately.
