SOURCE: carbon monoxide detector err code

You are going to hate this as much as I did!
In the manual you will read this ..

Manual for Kidde Nighthawk C02 Detector
On page 13
----------------------------------
Unit Malfunction
In the rare event that your alarm malfunctions,
it will alert you with a short “chirp” and the red
LED will flash once every 30 seconds. The
digital model will display “Err” as shown in
Fig. 6.
Seven years after initial power up, this unit will "chirp" every
30 seconds to indicate that it is time to replace the alarm.
The unit will not detect CO in this condition. Please replace
immediately.

SOURCE: The detector goes off whenever we wash the floor

Your gas detector utilizes a sensor that is sensitive to certain types of cleaning products especially ones that contain ammonia. Products that are dispersed by aerosol spray can also cause false alarms. Be very careful when using these types of products in close proximity as it is possible to poison the sensor. If this occurs it will permanently damage the detector and you will have no other recourse but to replace the detector.

SOURCE: Hardwired Kidde Nighthawk co/smoke detector

If the display shows "Lb", the battery is probably low; replace it. If the display shows "Err", push and hold the Peak Level button. Does the display change to "E09"? If so, then you have just been "had" by the grossly under-documented "planned obsolescence feature" called, rather matter-of-factly, "End of Life". This means that ~7 years after first being powered up, the unit will, BY DESIGN, cease to function, forcing you to buy a replacement. Would have been nice of Kidde to include THAT warning on the OUTSIDE of the package. Call their "Hotline" at 1-800-880-6788 and tell them what you think of that policy. If it is still under warranty (5 or 7 years depending on date of manufacture) they should replace it. In any event, buy another one; if they replace your first one you will have twice the protection. Not a bad thing. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. Words to live by: "Every creative act results from a sudden cessation of stupidity." -Edwin H. SOURCE: My Kidde fire and CO

Even though it is is hard-wired, it still has a 9 volt battery for back-up operation during power outtages. Unplug it, turn it over and you will see the battery compartment. Make sure you replace with a brand-name battery, EverReady, DuraCell, etc. not some cheap knock-off brand you may never have heard of. There is absolutely no quality control or minimum performance specifications for batteries that are marketed in the US and there is some REAL trash out there. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. My Kidde Carbon monoxide beeps every 30 seconds and is showing L6 with a flash of 0? It is brand new. What does this mean?

L6 is actually "Lb", which is a low battery warning. If the 9V battery is missing, or if the battery's power is low, an "Lb" message will display, which blink's alternately with the current CO reading, while chirping. If this happens, you need to replace the battery.

According to the Kidde Company. If any Error Code appears on the screen and that Code is not listed in the Owners Manual, you should return the unit to Kidde for repair or replacement. However, you must contact them first and have your Proof of Purchase available.

The detector is going off and reading err. message

There have continual problems with this unit. It may be that you have it mounted or plugged-in in the wrong place. As a co detector it should not be mounted in the same room as the gas appliance or wood burning stove. In addition, as a co/gas detector it should NEVER be mounted on the ceiling. A co/gas detector should always be mounted or plugged-in to a wall receptacle that is at least, but not more than 2 feet off the floor and not in the same room as the gas appliance. It will false alarm and give error messages when in fact nothing is wrong. If the problem continues, return it to the place of purchase for a new one.

Here is the link to the manual for your Kidde model KN-COB-LCB-A

You may find more related information on my website. If you need a replacement or you need to add additional Carbon Monoxide Detectors in other levels of your house, you can purchase them here.

This issue should be solved immediately, Carbon Monoxide Poisoning can only be avoided by making sure you have good working CO Detectors in your house, camp or recreational vehicle.

Hmm, it seems like a lot of us are having problems. My Kidde CO dectector is less than a year old and it's already showing an error. Call Kidde at the following number, Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm, EST.
"The next time your carbon monoxide alarm has ERR on the display, push and hold the Peak Level button. You will see an E and an O followed by a number.Contact our hotline at 1-800-880-6788 and provide us the error code, along with the model number, assembly number and date of manufacture from the back of your unit.If your unit is under warranty, a replacement will be mailed to you."
