Look for pulleys or belts that trun the drum to see if any are off or broken.

We keep getting the UL (unbalanced load) code on our Whirlpool Cabrio washer (model # WTW8800YC1). Is there a way to determine if it is the bearings or the suspension rods?

You can check the bearings by axially moving the drum against the axis in which it spins, backwards and forwards on a top loader, or up and down on a front loader.

More likely to be a suspension spring broken, or come unhooked.

Try the washer with two bath towels to check for uneven loading.

Whirlpool Duet Washer Model WFW9400SZ00 bangs only during spin cycle.

Yes you are exactly right, these bearings have failed & are causing the noise very common problem with whirlpool front loaders. very expensive to repair worth while looking into replacing instead of repairing as it will just happen again. The new LG machines are the best in my opinion.

Hi,

Kindly provide few details :-

1. Make and model of the washer?
2.How old the washer is?
3. Is it banging only at high speed or even on slow speed?
4. Is it only during the final spin or all the time during spin?
5. If you move the drum by hand, is there any noise? Could you turn the drum easily?

Kindly answer all the questions.

Thanks!!

At the end of the spin cycle, my Kenmore Washing Machine makes a grinding noise like an out of balance brake drum. What could be the problem

If your washer model number starts with 110. it's a whirlpool washer. Whirlpool use a spin tube with two notches in it. There is a block assembly that holds the inner basket down on to the spin tube. This can be accessed by removing the top of the agitator and take out the 7/16 screw. Lift the agitator to expose the top of the spin tube. The tube is stripped on top where the basket sits. When the washer stops spinning, the inner basket keeps moving. That is the noise you hear. Replace the spin tube and possibly the block.

I have a maytag top loader washer and when it is on the spin cycle the whole drum shakes hitting the walls of the washer

Without having the model number, it is difficult to diagnose.

Most Maytag / Whirlpool top loaders use a set of balance springs and friction pads to buffer the shaking.

Here is a Whirlpool site with a number of PDF files on their products including troubleshooting sections.

Find your washer under laundry products and open the PDF, it will probably take a few minutes to load.
