SOURCE: Ice maker not working

I recently had trouble with both my water dispenser and my ice maker. I determined that my filter was clogged, so I replaced it. That fixed the water dispenser but the ice maker still wasn't working. I investigated further and found that the water inlet tube was frozen solid. Aparently, when the filter was clogged the water came in so slowly that it froze before it got to the icetray. I tried pouring hot water over the inlet tube to melt it and it mostly worked, but there was still some ice in the tube further back where I couldn't reach. Finally I defrosted the freezer so all the ice could melt and turned it back on and now it works great! Hope this might help.

SOURCE: ice maker overfills and leaks into the ice bin.

I have had a similar problem several times. What I have found is that the ice tray coating has begun to flake off. Then, the ice sticks or partially dumps. Next more ice builds up and when the valve opens the water runs over the partially emptied tray and spills into the bin making "icebergs". The remedy is to replace the tray or if that is not possible, then, the whole icemaker. In fact, I have one down stairs to put in tomorrow. They don't seem to last more than about 4 years or so.

Water stopped comming into ice maker and watter dispenser

Hello Rainer;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

Your problem is simple, you have a water supply problem. Your water shut off valve is plugged up and your are not getting the 60 PSI pressure to open the solenoid valves on your ice maker or water dispenser. Water shut off valves age and the seat becomes blocked.

Although, retired I work on the side. I just had this problem 3 months ago.

Hi friend, thanks for your post!
I understand that your icemaker on your Frigidaire refrigerator is not getting water to the icemaker. It sounds like you could have an issue within the valve or solenoid. I would recommend having a professional come out to properly diagnose your appliance and repair it. -Matt

Does not make ice

Either the ice maker is not calling for water or the ice maker water valve is not working, there are many different types of water valves so its very dificult to tell you what to do without a model number or picture of the valve, but generaly speaking if you VERY CAREFULLY put 120V to a water valve it should open and alow water to flow, you can try this for the valve that has a water line going to the ice maker and see if it lets water go to the ice maker, sometimes there are two valves that must open, one main valve and then another for either the water dispensor or the ice maker. a better first test might be to test the water valve for resistance across the coil and compair it to another coil and see if its close-ish. also you can test some ice makers and see if they are putting 120V to the water valve by bypassing the bimetal and causing the ice maker to go into a cycle, but again a model number is required to know what kind of ice maker you have., even a picture would help

Freezer won't make ice cubes, but does provide cold water.

The water and ice maker are two seperate water control valves built onto the same. Your water control valve for the ice maker may be defective and require that you change the set. Fill ice maker with tap water and allow the water to freeze. If the ice maker dumps the ice into ice bin and then does not refill then this points to the water control valve. If the ice maker does nothing after water freezes then the problem is the ice maker. Send me a model number and I will look up the part numbers for you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

I just put in a new water valve for my ice maker , water is pumping out of the ice maker inside of frezzer.

I would Assume you used the correct valve for the model you have, and If that is the correct valve, your ice maker is calling to power-up the valve. To test this, disconnect the water valve power (two wires) put a meter in them, cycle the ice maker. Count how long the ice maker calls for water. Should be about 5-6 seconds or 2/3 cup of water. You can test this with a meter or a measuring cup under the valve and cycle the ice maker.
If you get too much water then - is the ice maker still calling for water or did the valve not close will be the result.
Good Luck

I believe this fix might be cheap (REPLAC>>>>>.....) No never mind,
In all truth this problem doesn't sound expensive but the ease may not be built in.
Sounds like your on the right track.
If you dfont have water in the door This is mute. If someone switched the wires on your ice maker water fill valve and you have water in the door try reversing these connections 2 x 2. now try water in the door. If you get water out the door Leave like this and retry it. If you get water in the ice area it was correct reverse back recheck that you get water in the door.

The water valve has to be at fault especially if its not shutting the water off with no power applied. Water presure is assumed to be over 20psig as low water pressure can cause water valves to open and not shut off completely.
Now if still have water commin gout the tube remove wires at the coil. No water now? Valve is ok Replace Ice maker.
No volts? Should = no water. remove out let line with water still on. still have water comming out? and the coil to the valve is unplugged? Water valve at fault. No water comming out could indicate another more seveer problem. Repalce the water valve and see if the problem goes away.
If still have trouble... water in the wall. (After a while the problem will disappear if it was comming form the ice maker -water valve to start with but reappear when it starts to refill again).
The tube may be broken inside the wall. OR worse yet the ice maker may be letting too much fill time for the water valve. SOme Ice makers ahve an adjustment behind the front cover and is indicated by a screw with a + and - on one side or the other indicating more or less water fill time. adjust accordingly. If it doesnt have this and you have made sure your not still filling with water by the valve sticking open with particles, replace the Ice Maker.

Please post back if this helped you or you need more help. Rate me accordingly with as high a mark as you feel I deserve and good luck

Frigidaire signaling water dispenser instead of ice maker

Sounds like the water solinoid valves are wired wrong. One activates The water dispenser. The other the ice maker. That, why every so often the water shoots out on the floor. The ice maker is telling the valve to open.
