Could be a lot of things. Cleaned and oiled isn't the same as overhauled. A bad cleaning will just move some particles out of the way, temporarily. Eventually, they can stop a watch. A part could have broken during the cleaning. You may have "over wound" (jammed gear) the watch and it's stuck. So, sorry, but no single answer. Yesterday, I bought a watch that was supposedly cleaned. I removed the back to authenticate. It was dirty. So... A reputable place is important. Size of store or advertising is not. Do some checking. Good watchmakers are hard to find.

A good watch overhaul can cost at least $125 and well over $600 on higher end brand name watches. Average is about $160 at retail.

Self whinder starts then stops after a couple of seconds ???

If you have had it for a good while, it probably needs a cleaning. And a little lube to keep it ticking.

Just purchased a 2002 chevy trailblazer , 6 cyl, it runs like a dream but I stop at a red light and proceed to take off it hesitates and wants to die

This happened to mine also. It was a faulty coil pack for one of the spark plugs, each spark plug has its own coil pack. Check the trouble codes to see which cylinder is causing the issue. If there are no codes then you need to take off the throttle body and clean it, this is a common problem with the 4.2L engines. I would do a search on Youtube for a video instruction on how to clean the throttle body. It's really easy and its recommended to be done at each oil change or every other oil change.

Hi Bob,

Unfortunately, Rolex automatics, like all mechanical watches, must be serviced every 3-5 years. This is because the oils in the movement dry and congeal on the bottom of the wheels (gears) and dust and debris in combination work like sandpaper to cause wear on the parts.

Think of it like a fine automobile, one would never neglect the oil change in their new Mercedes because the engine could be damaged. In this case it is the movement that can have excessive wear. Also, the mainspring at this point may need to be replaced, which is the power source of your movement. We service Rolex and all other high grade watches, and always beat the price of the Rolex service center, their time frame, and can provide discontinued parts where they cannot.

We are happy to service your timepiece at a much better price than that offered. Feel free to contact us through email or phone.

Hi, the problem you are having is with the spring that winds up, it either needs a good service and new machine oil used on all the moving parts or it needs the spring replacing, usually a good clean and new oil solves the problem so i would go that way first.

you need to find a jewelers who repairs watches, their hard to find but if you ask your local jeweler he should be able to point you in the right direction, once its been cleaned and oiled you should find you will have no further problems, it wont be cheap as its a lot of work involved in stripping it down, so be prepared to pay a price for this work.

My watch is running slow and I have replaced the battery

Not knowing the model or make I would say it will need to be sent to watchmaker for an overhaul/clean/ oil/ adjust. I dont know how old your watch is,either. Most watches have 1-2 year movement warranty.

CLOCK OILING TIPS * NOTE: Many Master Clock Smiths and Hobbyists used many different oils and as many different techniques.
* It is only good sense to use only the best in quality when selecting clock oils and grease. A number of fine oils are made especially for clocks. The oil used should stay in place and not evaporate easily and have no tendency to gum or get sticky as it ages. Most clock oils meet these standards. [CAUTION: Never consider using non-clock lubricants, as they tend to not really work well in clocks. Some are too light and cause unnecessary bushings wear, while others are too thick or can evaporate, over time will gum up and stop the clock prematurely.]

Oiling Procedures
-Main-springs are oiled after cleaning and before they are recoiled.
-Teeth and pinions are never oiled.
-Normally, the dial train of gears, hour wheel, minute wheel and minute wheel post are not oiled. However, oil is used between the center shaft and cannon pinion where slip friction is present in setting the hands.
-All points of friction such as train wheel pivots to bushings are oiled. Verge faces are oiled directly.
-Oil is always used sparingly and should never run all over the plates.

Hope this tip helps.

Oil all over wrist watch - can it be cleaned?

hi, if the watch is water proof witch most watches are, if it is it should tell you something on the back like wr 30m or wr 10m if it says this on the back then this is telling you that the watch is water proof up to 10metres or what ever it says if this is the case then you can put it in the sink with only slightly warm soapy water then just rub it over gently with soft cloth whilst under water.

How ever if it says water resistent then this dont mean its water proof this just means its rain proof but not made for going under water unless it says water resistent to 30m then this can be washed in the sink also if it dont say this then you cant put it in the sink you can only wipe over it with a damp cloth to remove as much oil as possible.

But if you can get it clean and its not water proof then the watch is going to have to be taken apart to clean the outer casing that is only if the oil has not got inside the watch.
Oil wont short the watch out put it can cause problems if you have any buttons on the watch so your best bet would be taking it into a watch shop and get it cleaned that way.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Tropby radio controlled watch, runs slow, even with new battery

Your watch is need to clean an replaced the old oil in gear shafting that is the common problem of a watch when the old oil is sticky already thats makes the gear moves slowly and your watch is always late . If ever your watch was already clean and replaced new oil and still working slowly then the problem is in the circuit board is near to run out its needs to replaced whole circuit board so its better again. I know this because im a technician in Rolex service center before. Feel free to ask whatever the result.

Hope it may help you;

Regards;
