Automatic Driver for Brother HL1040 in Windows XP not working

I'm trying to install my HL1040 on my desktop computer with Windows XP. Brother's webite says the driver is built-in to this version of windows. Although it is listed on their driver selection when I try to add a new printer, I cannot get it to work and would appreciate some expert advise. I've tried all the simple stuff like unplugging, turning off, deleting and reloading. I don't know what else I can do. Thanks.

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

In Windows XP Pro...

Go to printers and faxes window. File-Server Properties. From dialog go to drivers then select the problem driver and pick Replace button. Select Yes to replace driver.

This has worked to solve the problem on the printer server machine but not on the other machines using the printer as a shared printer.

Go to this page on the Brother website:

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us/en/model_top/monolaserpri/hl2040_all.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=hl2040_all

Then click on Downloads, then drivers, windows xp home, English, Click on Search.

On the next page, where is says full driver and software package, click on more information.

Finally click on the download button and save the file to your desktop. After the download is done, run the program and that should install the driver properly. If the message comes up about compatibility, just continue it cause it should still go thru.

I have lenovo think centre m55e 9637 desktop.I want ethernet controller driver for this.I tried installing q3etn14us13.exe driver but it's not working.

I'm assuming your OS, is windows Xp since that is the driver you are installing it for. Try uninstalling the driver by right clicking my computer -> manager -> device manager -> Network Adapters and underneath it click uninstall. Then try reinstalling. If that still doesn't work try installing a previous driver, such as this one: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_drivers/q3etn12us13.exe
And that should work definitely work for you. Please make sure you have Windows XP and not Windows 7 32 or 64 bit.

My brother mfc 5840cn won't install on my new laptop which has windows 7 my old laptop was xp

Brother has not released a printer driver specifically for Windows 7 and this model. You can however use a basic printer driver if the Windows Update feature of your operating system is set to "automatic:"

To set Windows Update to automatic, perform the following: (if you know it already is set to automatic, you may skip these steps)

1) Click "Windows Icon" (Start button) on taskbar

2) From the "Search Programs and Files" box type "change device installation" and start search

3) Click "Change device installation settings" - the Device Installation Settings window opens

4) If it is not already selected, select "Yes, do this automatically (recommended)"

5) Click "Save changes"

Now you are ready to have Windows search for and install the generic printer driver for your model. Your computer must be connected to the internet in order to complete this installation.

Note: If you have previously connected the USB cable, disconnect it from the computer and printer for now.

1) Power on your printer

2) Now connect the USB cable to the back of the printer, then to a USB port on the back of your computer (not to a USB hub or keyboard port)

3) Windows should now automatically search for and install the latest driver for your printer.

4) The "Your devices are ready to use" message may come up on your screen upon completion. You may have to click "Close [X]" to close this window.

You should now have a basic driver installed for your model of printer.

My brother MFC490CW is not playing nice with windows 7

Visit the Brother website
http://www.brother-usa.com/
See if you can find an updated driver for your 64 bit Operating system . Download it and save it to your desktop. Remove the old driver then install the updated one this should fix the problem. But if you can't find an updated driver, contact Brother.

You need to download the driver for vista from the brother webite. The disks that came with it only work up to XP.
Go to www.brother.com
Click on support or downloads.
Follow the on-screen instructions and download the drivers.
