Your operating system is missing startup file, so the easy way is to insert main operating system CD in to drive and run step up , you need to be in safe mode before you try this.
good luck

In the middle of installing Windows 98 in Virtualbox I get a message Application Error SUWIN caused an Illegal Instruction in module VGA.DRV at 0001:011B. How can I fix this error?

Is this occuring during the install?

If this is the case, try this (it will be useful to know when the problem occurs):

Go to the VM Settings
Go to System
Go to Acceleration Tab
Uncheck Enable VT x AMD V

I hope that helps.

If not, there is a guide on the virtualbox forums here

Which I would suggest trying to run through instead.

Hi! I need help with my computer. I use a seagate ST380811AS hard disk in my desktop computer. The problem now, is that everytime I start my computer "A non system disk" appears on the monitor or...

1 Remove any floppy disks or bootable CDs, DVDs, USB flash drives or other bootable media from the computer. Attempt to restart the computer again. Proceed if you continue to receive the error.
2 Restart the computer again. Press the key required to enter your BIOS setup. (The monitor usually displays a "Press [key] to access BIOS" right after restarting your computer. Press the key shown on your screen.)
3 Navigate to the "Boot Options" or "Advanced" menu by using the arrow keys. (The precise menu terms will vary according to your computer and BIOS type.)
4 Select the hard disk that contains your operating system (usually C:) as your primary boot device. Select your CD/DVD drive, your floppy drive or another hard disk as your secondary boot device.
5 Save and exit the BIOS. Proceed with the next step if you see the "Non-system disk error" message again.
6 Restart the computer. Return to the BIOS' "Boot Options" screen by following the steps above, then set the "CD/DVD drive" as the primary boot device and the hard disk as the secondary boot device. Save and exit the BIOS.
7 Insert your Windows installation disc. Restart the computer. Press any key to boot from disc. Follow the on-screen prompts to reinstall Windows.
8 Replace your hard disk drive if you cannot install Windows.

if the solution above does not work then you may have to re-install WinXP again. you need to use a WinXP CD and do a Repair of Windows when the install feature askes for it....

I have formatted my system but whenever i am starting it, its asking for bootable device. After formatting it again it loads all set up file, then it reboots the system but after rebooting it again loads...

after it loads al setup files and it will say something like the computer needs to restart press enter to restart now or it will automatically restart in (so many seconds will be displayed) So as it is restarting it will flash up something like press f2 or delete or some other key to enter setup ( if you miss what key it says just hold down ctrl-alt-delete and it will restart again. So after entering setup, you will be able to scroll through the settings and find one that will allow you to change the boot device sequence and just set your hard drive to be the first boot device. It sounds like right now the computer is set up to boot from the cd rom drive first and so when it restarts then it will load the windows setup files again like you said. I know it's stupid and nobody tells you that is what you have to do , you kinda have to figure it out on your own.

My PC doesn't load

Restart computer. Watch closely at the bottom of the screen for an F command.

This F command will allow to enter setup.

When computer is loading, start pressing F12 repeatedly until setup is opened.

When setup opens, you'll see a file menu that runs across the top of the screen. It will start from the left and move to the right - press F9. When prompted, select "restore default settings". Move to each file menu and press F9 and set "default settings".

When you come to the Exit menu, do the same thing, then select the Exit Menu, and choose the "Exit Saving Settings" option.

Once it exits, it will automatically restart and begin the loading process into Windows (or your operating system).

If the OS does not load, you will need to re-enter setup: under the file menu, search for an option that will allow you to enable a second F command which should be F5 or F10. Once this is done, go to exit, and select "exit saving settins".

The computer will begin loading, but you will want to restart the computer - watch again at the bottom of the screen for the new F command - remember what it is when you are in setup, and begin pressing it as before with the F12 command - the F5 (F10) will bring you to an option menu for starting the computer - select the "start in safe mode" option.

If the computer does not load in safe mode, you will need to format the hard drive and re-install the Operating System.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Your computer may have an error that is causing the computer to restart, Try this one, when you turn on the computer start pressing f8, then advance boot menu should come up, after that select, disable automatic restart then the computer will start booting to windows then it should display the error, if it still stays on the screen q/o showing anything, do the f8 process again and this time select safemode.
Hope this helps!

Press F8 continuously while starting the computer. When black screen appears eventually (right before Windows loads), choose Last Known Good Configuration.

Problem restarting, "press r"

  1. Start the laptop
  2. when the logo screen turns black start pressing F8 a few times.
  3. A Windows Boot Options screen should show on the screen
  4. If you see the Windows Logo (the normal thing when Windows loads, then press reset and try again
  5. At the Windows Boot Options screen select "Last known good configuration" and press Enter twice
It "should" now load normally, if not then..
  1. Replace step 5 above with "Safe Mode" and see if that loads all the way through. If so, then restart and see if its OK now.
If not, then post back with any error messages and we can look at something else.
