SOURCE: What is the thermal fuse
Our thermal fuse blew as well, and my son was able to read the small print. Mine is a MicroTemp SRCAXK G4A01 TF 100, which according to the ThermoDisc website appears to have an open temperature of 100C (212F).

The "diode" that your electrician mentioned is actually a one shot thermal fuse.
You can either go to the Nutone website for parts, or remove the thermal fuse, extract the info written on it and buy a replacement. Mine was a 100C 10A thermal fuse. I got mine from DigiKey.
