well if it has a menu option go into menu then set up and change cc okay if does not have menu button try to find universal remote w/ menu option and try to change okay

Leave it off unplugged from the mains overnight. This should reset the TV to factory settings removing the closed caption problem.
If this fails you should be able to find factory reset in the set up menu.

try to reset factory setting and after unplug from the wall and wait 2 min until theres no more power at all and plug it back it should work

Did you check settings on the CATV box the also have CC settings. About the gray out maybe your TV is not capable to do CC. Try that!

Well you have several options.
You can order a new factory replacement remote control for your set as shown at the following link:
Or a slightly used but still functional one off EBay for a bit less ($20) as shown at the following link:
Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated.
Or you can go to your local electronics store and pick up a UNIVERSAL REMOTE and program it to function with your set. Just make sure that it has the CLOSED CAPTIONING button on it and that it has a code for your your TV included in the remote control's manual. You can always look up the universal remote's manual online before you buy it to be sure it will work.
