Sounds like a common fuel problem you need to remove carb & fuel tank and unless you can get a compressor they need a good blast out you may even take carb apart & check diaghram they have very small jets in fact most lawnmower shops have a sonic bath for this

You may want to check the gas cap to see if it clogged with dirt. If the gas cap is clear, you more than likely have a carburetor problem. If you need tips on carb. cleaning, feel free to ask.

SOURCE: my troy built lawn mower dies after it starts runs

Your high speed needle jet is most likely the cause. Remove the jet and clean it out. Keep in mind that there may be least one or two very small holes drilled in to the sides of the high spped jet, if so, be sure they are cleaned and not clooged.

Starts & runs for about 25mins stops & wont start leave it a while & it will start & do the same thing again

This is likely to be a fuel starvation problem.
Fuel is fed from a reservoir called the float bowl. This works pretty much like a toilet cistern with a float to cut off flow once it fills. Once the bowl empties and doesn't refill due to a blockage, the engine will cut out.
Clamp off the fuel line or turn off the fuel tap. Remove the bowl, unclamp the line or turn on the tap, and check fuel flows freely. If it doesn't, there is a blockage in the fuel line which you need to trace.

Another scenario is that the main fuel jet is blocked or semi-blocked. This can cause the engine to run ok when idling (since the idle jet is ok and not much fuel is required), but cut out as you throttle up. This is because more air is sucked in, but not enough fuel is drawn from the main jet due to the blockage. So the mixture is to weak and the engine stalls. The jet can be cleaned with compressed air or ideally a carburetor cleaning aerosol.

Lawn mower will start and run for 5 seconds and shut down

will it stay running with your choke on? if so then clean your carb. if not then look for a blockage from tank to carb. ie fuel shut off, deteriorated fuel line. plugged filter etc

Masport 600st

remove your carb. have a flat clean spot to work. disassemble the carb paying attention as you do to where thing are. once you have remove the float bowl remove the rubber ring from carb or bowl(whichever it stuck to) remove your float being careful not to crush it or damage it. next remove the needle and seat if it didn't come out with the float. spray a quality carb cleaner through any and all ports or holes you can. some are dummy holes so expect some spray back (wear eye protection), blow carb out with compressed air only. no cloth or paper towel. reassemble in opposite order with new parts. make sure your float height is adjusted properly

I've been trying to start my briggs & straton Masport lawn mower, after it was sitting idel for over a year. Replaced oil ok / added new fuel / spark working, however it dies after fisrt kick...

You probably still have old fuel and water in the carb itself.

take off the air filter and look for the bowl screw or clip *(depending on model)

You can drain the bowl and let some clean fuel run through the gas line as well.

If the new fuel was last years you might want to check the gas can for water as well.

I work at a mower shop and at this time of year we do a lot of these kinds of repairs.

Fuel today just isnt kind to equipment that sits around for any length of time.
