Why is my exhaust leaking oil and blowing out grayish color smoke

Your piston rings are worn to the point that oil is getting into the cylinder and some is being ejected through the exhaust and some of the oil is being burned causing the grayish smoke.

PTO making noise when engaged in forward drive

It's 90 weight gear oil but most likely the output shaft seal has been gone for a consdierable amount of time and has leaked out and is just now making noise, they don't normally make noise right away after the oil runs out. put oil up to the plug fill hole and watch if it runs out the shaft seal if it does then it will have ti be repaiered.

My neighbor let us use his troy built tiller and it needs oil but he doesn't know what type of oil to put in the transmition. please help

The recommended lube for a Troy Bilt transmission is 140 Gear Lube. It's tough to find. If you use lighter oil, the trans seals will likely start to leak.

Mantis 4 cycle (brand new): oil leaking out, smoking soaking air cleaner, quits running..

Sounds like your gas tank is not breathing properly. try this: the next time you run the tiller and it begins to stall out, try loosening the gas cap. It should start running again. This means that the gas cap is clogged. Unclog it or purchase another one.

Too hard to crank, the rope is wrond too tight.

you may want to check the oil level, some units can leak gas through the carb and into the cylinder. thus raising your oil level and making it hard to turn over.
