Question about Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD Recorder

2 Answers

No finalising of discs.

Hi, New to this site. My DMR-E50 works fine part of the time, but quite often will not "finalise" a disc. This seems independent of which type/brand of disc I use; sometimes it'll work with one brand - not the next time.
I've used a laser cleaner with no change. The machine is 18 months old, and has not had very much use. Any help much appreciate. Cheers, Les.

Hi, I have a Sharp DV-RW360H which has been working fine. I have dubbed various VHS tapes to DVD and now need to finally the discs so they can play in other machines. However when I press the setup button...

Try one of the discs in another machine. You only need to finalise them if you want to ensure no more is put on them. To finalise a disc you need to use the write or burn functions, not the setup menu. Get the manual for this from the sharp website and read it.

Panasonic DMR-ES30V DVD / VCR Combo Recorder - where can I buy another? If I have to buy latest model, will it finalise DVD's made on the above model?

You may be able to find an identical model for this combo unit on eBay or similar, otherwise if you do end up purchasing a new unit (for example a DMR-EZ48V which is a Panasonic) - you cannot finalise discs recorded on one model in a different one, and I doubt you would be able to even on an identical model, since there would be variations in their digital control circuitry.

This is why recorded DVDs must be finalised in the drive they were written in to enable compatible playback in standard players. You cannot change recording models or drives prior to finalising.

Model DMR-ES30VEB. I have had this recorder for a few years now but since I got a new Sony TV at christmas I am having problems recording. When I record a programme the DVD says it does not recognise the...

DVD-RW discs are ideal for temporary video recording and data backup, but they are not recommended for successful finalising, as there is no guarantee that the disc will work in another device.

Have you tried using DVD-R discs? these CAN be recorded in video mode AND finalised for compatible playback in other players. I assume the DMR-ES30V is a DVD/VCR combo unit - if so, the DVD recorder will not recognise RW discs; only DVD-RAM and DVD-R.

DVD-R discs are recommended for video recording and finalising in this model. (later model Panasonic DVD recorders allow RW disc recording).

Re-recording on re-usable discs (automatically finalised)

Check the setup. You have "automatically finalize disk" selected.

Recorded disc will not play in other players

Sounds like you may not have finalised the disk after recording it. You can't do this without the remote control, so you may have to buy another. My remote was broken and I got an exact Panasonic replacement from or you can get them on ebay sometimes - part number IRC85049. When the disk is finalised you should be able to play it on any DVD machine. Steve
