Power is going into machine but console does not light up and work

I have windows millenium on my cumputer and want to upgrade to xp but it asks me for a 15 digit product key that I dont know because i brought the cumputer at a tagsale for 200.00


The 15 digit key is the one on the original packin the WinXP disk came in. It looks like a Microsoft sticker with alpha numeric code on it.
