SOURCE: Dyson DC07 - I push

Hi, the power button presses onto a small switch underneath the button. Either 1 of 2 things has happened.

1. The Inner swith has dislodged
2. The button you press has became stiff.

Solution

Take the cyclone off
Take the Wand off

This will leave you with the frame.

Switch the power of completely and remove plug from wall socket, just to be safe.

With the dyson facing you near the button at the from you will a small silver srew. You will need to unscrew this using a torx screwdriver. Dyson dont really want you interfering so they use these types of screws.

Once you take that screw out, turn the machine round to face away from you. At the back of where the button is you should see where there is like 2 clips, one on either side.

Put your torx screwdriver into the gap on one side and hit the end of the screw driver with the heal of your hand this will knock the clip out, do the same with the other side and then the facia will come off.

You will then see the wiring. Should see that the switch has maybe came away from the groove its supposed to fit into.

Push it back into place, ensuring that the switch is down, so that you can put the facia back on.

Its a wee bit tricky sometime puting the facia back on if you havent done it beofre, but be patient and you will get it. Out the srew back in and it should snap into place.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC47's cord reel button needs to be pressed down firmly to retract the cord - you should feel a click from the button when it's pressed down far enough. Keep hold of the plug as you press the button down, and allow the cord to feed back into the machine.

If you're sure you've pressed the button down as far as it will go, and have not been able to get the cord to retract, please get in touch with us directly so we can provide further assistance. You can reach the Dyson customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

My dyson dc14 all floors won't stay on when I press the power button. I can hold it down and it will work, but that makes cleaning very slow.

        Quick Fix...takes 4 minutes max

Remove the switch by using instructions here:

        http://www.sparesaver.com/vacuum-spares/help-and-support/dyson-section/dyson-technical-advice-450/dyson-dc14-technical-advice-474/replacing-the-cable.html

(The was an additional torx screw 3 " below the one in the directions...yours may have this too...just remove)

Then...While holding the body of the switch in one hand, use your other to hold both contacts between your thumb and forefinger and gently place pressure on each contact in the opposite direction, just like screwing a nut onto a bolt. Press the switch down while applying this torque and see if it sticks. If it does just bend the contacts slightly and continue pressing the switch to ensure it holds. Reinstall switch.

I still advise buying a switch from amazon for $4.00 and replacing it but this will help you to continue to use your vacuum in the meantime without having to hold the button...

        The 'on' button isn't working/sticking

The ratchet mechanism within the power switch has failed.

There is no "fix" for this other than to repalce the switch with a new one.
If you have good DIY skills and tools, and feel competent to work on electrical devices, then it is possible to do this yourself, however Dyson dont make it easy !
The plastic switch covers (the bit you actually press) are normally held in place by a hidden plastic tag that is released using a narrow, flat tool such as a very small screwdriver or flat file. If you look very carefully at the switch cover, you should be able to see a very small "slot" on one side in to which you place the flat tool and "feel" for the tag. Once the swicth cover is removed, you can then access the switch.
Replacement switches are normally available on eBay.

If all this sounds a bit daunting, take it to a repair shop, or call Dyson helpline.

Power won't stay on unless you hold the button down . How can I fix this and what is the problem?

You can't fix this problem yourself - a repair dealer needs to open up the button and inspect the power switch - call the Dyson helpline, they will find the closest authorized dealer in your area and if your machine is still under warranty it'll probably fixed under warranty for you.

Dyson DC01 - can't get starter button switch off.

this issue is known well with dysons to be honest you will continue to have this problem for as long as you have the vacuum. they use substandard plastic parts which break easy. You will have to replace the button and make sure there are no other broken pieces of plastic in the housing before putting it back together.
