Just by what you are stating about new filter, water dispenses, squeaking sound, I would start with the icemaker. I would take it out, usually two screws and a plug, pretty simple to take out. Sounds like something is stuck in blades. Could be as simple as a piece of Ice. Icemakers don't have many parts. Ice makers also have a sensor on them, usually on the wall of freezer, turns filter off when door is open, check to see if this is not stuck open, would cause icemaker ot to work. "Check the sensors"
Hi!... Have you tried recharging the Freon before?...Squeaking sound might have been leak(s) where the Freon gas went out... Better check for leaks and seal it and then charge Freon... Hope I Helped....

It's a fairly NEW GE Profile French Door Bottom Freezer 25,1 cubic foot refrigerator.
The GE filter he put in last evening was a Smart Water GSWF interior refrigerator refill.
It was purchased yesterday at the appliance dealer who sold us the GE.
The instruction booklet says that the filter cartridge should be positioned vertically but when my husband installed it as directed.....it only locks in horizonatally. That's also how it was when NEW.
As far as freon.........two years ago when an older frig in the garage leaked freon, they told us not to add any.......we just got rid of it. Where is the freon put in????? On a new refrigerator?
I haven't come across any info on that in the manual.
Right now, I raised the temperature on the freezer side to see if maybe the line is frozen????
If this means anything at all..............the water is coming out of the dispenser on the door.
The "reset filter button" which I am supposed to press and hold for 3 seconds just turns red and then goes off. No green light. Again, talking about the control panel on exterior door.
We've had tons of ice until about two days ago. Our manual says when ICE DIMINISHES, it means you need a new filter........so we got the appropriate GE Smart Water GSWF which is a twist and lock system. He could try "later today" taking it out and reinstalling it......according to what the manual says. ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON something else besides freon? Again, this is a new appliance......one year 6 or 7 months old. Thank you for the freon idea..........we shall see.
My husband just said that freon was outlawed years ago?????????????????????
This is to Josh.
Thank you but I did warm it up yesterday by raising the freezer temp on the door panel.
Then I lowered it last night. Still no ice.
Water is coming out of the dispenser. I re read the entire manual which has various troubleshooting info on pages spaced far apart.
I found where the GREEN LIGHT IS and showed my husband one hour ago. He then was able to get the green light working on the ice maker as per instructions in the manual. He also found a LONG WHITE PLASTIC COMB SHAPED OBJECT that had a tiny piece broken off. He removed that and removed one ice cube which must have been jamming the ice outlet? One hour later now, the ice bin is filling up with ice cubes.
I knew this would happen as I just bought a bunch of rubbermaid ice cube trays;-) It figures. No one so far has really been able to help me solve the three days with no ice cubes on this GE French Door bottom freezer. The appliances are all made in China nowadays and I wouldn't be surprised if the instructions are printed there also. But, finally figured it out. I do thank all of you.
p.s. No one has commented on why the "filter" which says should be vertical is horizontal; it was when it was new and it's the way my husband again had to install it.??? Go figure.
Unless those instructions are wrong also.
