No this is done on purpose to prevent piracy. this is so that you cannot create dvd's and sell them to people. unfortunately there is no way around this unless you buy an unbranded dvd recorder which may not have the copyright protection.

Every disc I create plays on all my other dvd players. Are you sure you have "finalized" the disc after you are done recording? If you don't finalize the disc, it will only play on this recorder.

I Have a Magnavox MWR10D6 DVD Recorder Certain shows or movies i try to record , I get a pop-up saying " Cannot record in +VR mode " . What is +vr mode and how do I change it?

VR mode or Video Recording mode is a feature on stand-alone consumer and computer DVD recorders that allows video recording and editing on a DVD rewritable disc.
In VR mode, users can create and rename titles for the scenes. Also, if a scene is deleted, the space allocated by it will be utilized later without the need of reformatting a disc.
If the user would like to record on the same disc again at a later time, in VR mode, users may eject the disc and it will not be finalized by the recorder until it is manually initiated. For the sake of comparison, any DVD disc recorded in VR's competitor V mode (or Video mode) will be automatically finalized before it is ejected by the recorder. Disc finalization is still required if the disc formatted for VR mode will be played in another DVD player.
Currently, users can only record in VR mode with the use of DVD-RW, DVD-RAM and DVD+RW discs, (updated in 2000 to accommodate DVD-R (General)) [DVD players marked “RW compatible” and “DVD Multi” can play DVD-VR recorded discs] and on some recorders, also on hard-disk drives.

Did not burn dvd

The DW-100 burns files in the same format as they were originally recorded by your camcorder. The Canon Vixia HG-21 records in AVCHD--a high-definition format--which is completely different from standard-definition DVD and which is not compatible with regular DVD players (even though the disc itself is a standard DVD-R). As it states in the manual for the camcorder, "High-definition (AVCHD) discs created using the optional DW-100 DVD Burner can be played back only with AVCHD-compatible DVD players."

The DW-100 is really more for archiving your files in their native format than for creating standard DVDs that can be played on regular DVD players. Regular (standard-definition) DVD players can't play AVCHD, although many Blu-Ray players can. Unless you use a Blu-Ray player that supports AVCHD playback, there are two solutions to your problem:

1. If you want to keep your recordings high-def, you can view them by playing them back with the DW-100, which must be connected to your camcorder via the USB cable, then from your camcorder to your TV via an HDMI cable.

2. If you want to have standard DVDs that you can play on any DVD player, either import the files to your computer and convert them to standard-definition using video-editing software, then burn them to DVD with your computer's DVD burner, or connect the analog output (component=better, composite=good) to a stand-alone DVD recorder (i.e. not the DW-100).

I've used the route of Vixia HF-10 camcorder > composite output > Panasonic DMR-ES25S DVD recorder (about $65 used on eBay) with pretty good results when I've wanted to give videos to relatives who don't have Blu-Ray players. You just have to make sure to set the camcorder 's analog (composite) output to 480i so that it formats the picture in the right aspect ratio, or else the 16:9 image will be squeezed to 4:3 instead of letterboxed.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I recorded my movies on the dw 100 but now i can't grt them to play on my dvd player

The DW-100 records discs based on the format they were originally recorded.

If your camera is recording HiDef videos than the discs this unit creates will be viewable on a Blu-ray disc player.

If your camera is recording in Standard Definition (ie. NOT HD) then I believe that the discs will work in regular or upconverting DVD players.

My Canon camcorder does not record in Standard Def so can't quite vouch for that last comment though.

Dvd recordings will not play on any other dvd player

Hi,

Initially, pls verify that all the recorded DVDs have been finalized, no further recording to be done on the disc. If this finalization is not performed, the recorded discs will only play on the unit it was recorded/created on and no other standalone player.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Dvd downloads

Here are some tips if your DVD player can't play DVD+ RW:

1. In order to play a DVD-R, DVD+R, or DVDRW disc, a DVD player must be compatible with those recording formats.
2. Ensure that the recording speed used to create the disc is supported by the DVD player.
3. This procedure assumes that the DVD-R, DVD+R, or DVDRW disc being used is not blank.
4. If additional model specific information is required to complete any of these steps, refer to the operating instructions provided with the player or recorder, or the help files of the computer software used to create the disc.
5. Ensure that the disc has been inserted into the player correctly.
6. Examine the DVD for fingerprints, smudges, or scratches and, if necessary, clean the disc using a soft dry cloth.
7. Ensure the disc has been properly created and finalized.
8. Ensure the DVD region code and format of the disc is compatible with the player.
9. Ensure the disc playback is not being restricted by parental control options.

If you still can't play that DVD on your DVD player, you can try to copy it to ISO file and play it on computer instead. Here I found a tutorial for help: How to Back Up DVD to ISO?

Daewoo DVRS05 Recorded DVD won't play in OTHER DVD players

my suggestion from reading other forums is that these players sometimes have problems finalizing the disc.. you could try making a copy of the disc in a computer to see if this fixes the promlem or maybe media these use dvd+r and has a lot of compatibility issues with dvd players.
