Make sure that the line coming from the wall is plugged into the "L" port on the machine. The port with the icon of a telephone over it is for an extension phone, answering machine, computer modem, etc.

There are several ways in which Auto Print Off can be engaged, creating the situation you are encountering. It is important to remember that this function serves a specific purpose - to allow for documents to go into memory as opposed to going straight to print. This is often intentional, to save ink and reduce the actual usage of the machine; which will preserve ink and lengthen the life of the equipment, thereby reducing overall cost. Additionally, there are reasons this function is engaged without being purposely set by the operator, most usually in order to prevent loss of received faxes during the existence of some type of error condition.
To choose to receive faxes into memory rather than printing, this is most often done by pressing the on/off button quickly. It could be that you are inadvertently activating "Auto Print Off", if the on/off button was held down too long while turning the machine on. In the normal circumstance, to activate, you touch the on/off button to activate the function, and when you choose to deactivate it, press the on/off button again. Note that this touch should be brief, and not long enough to actually turn the machine on or off.
Along the line of conditions that cause Auto Print Off to activate without operator choice, there are several error states that invoke Auto Print Off. Primarily, these relate to: ink low/out, paper low/out, paper jam, or FINE cartridge issues. As any of these conditions could result in loss of a received fax, the machine switches to memory receipt in order to prevent such loss.
I would suggest, first, to make sure that when you turn the machine on, you do not hold the button after it has begun to start up. Then, if Auto Print Off is displayed (as it carries forward from the last ttime the machine was on), check the settings. Press [Menu], scroll with the up/down arrows to <Data Registration>, press [Start/Copy] and you will see <User Settings>. Use the arrows to select <RX Settings>, press [Start/Copy] and you will see <ECM RX>. Scroll again to <Option Settings>, press [Start/Copy]. Then, you will see <Off> if "Automatic Print Off" is activated, meaning the machine will not print (such as when ink is low), but will store the faxes in memory. Use the arrows to select <On> if you want the machine to print regardless of what it perceives the ink level to be. (Select <On> by using the arrows, press [Start/Copy], and then press [Stop] in order to exit the Menu listing.)
Now, if these steps do not resolve your condition, there could be a couple other issues. The FINE cartridge (ink) must be the specified Canon cartridge, and can not be reused. If the cartridge has previously been used, the machine will not recognize the ink level properly (such as when ink is manually refilled). It could also need cleaning, which is handled through the Maintenance menu. It is also important to remember a particular quirk of this machine, in that when changing the cartridge, you must make sure that paper is in the paper tray first. If all else fails, unplug the machine from the power source, wait at least 5 minutes and then plug it back in.

The ID on the TX report only show the ID if the ID is programed on the fax machine you send it to.The only way is to ask the destinated party to program the Fax name.
