My faulty Carl Lewis treadmill has a blown varistor on the main PCB, the varistor links to the 230v live supply in, but, the supply goes through a filter and a coil (see pic) b4 the PCB, is 1 faulty?

Hi There,

If you have blown a Varistor, the manufacturer would not allow you to keep using that treadmill. Varistors are a safety device and should always be viable or electrical damage could be possible, leading to human injury. A blown varistor almost always says, "I saw voltage too high and I shorted to protect the circuits further downstream, that is my main job".... you can contact jatinah@rocketmail.com for more help if needed. Good Luck.

I have a enphase M175 and I blew a Varistor i cant reed the value of the Varistor need help

Varistors change resistance by a change in temperature. They are vary accurate and all have charts listing resistance at certain temperatures to test their response against factory specs.. What I am driving at is, if there is a resistance reading across it, its probably not bad. Factory charts and the correct component itself would need to come from the manufacturer as they are specifically designed for their individual application. Try calling customer support. I doubt they will help, but ?

Every time I've seen this it has been a motherboard replacement; there is a very slight chance it is the cable but since it also seems to power off I'd think the motherboard is most likely.

How many mg are there in 1 i.u?

1 IU = 0.025 mcg
1 mcg = 0.001 mg
so look at it like this
1 IU per 0.025 mcg x 1 mcg per 0.001 mg = 1 IU per .000025 mg
so
there are .000025 mg in 1 IU

Conversion of mu into iu

Hi, ibmpl,

I think I know what you are referring to! Sorry for the delay in responding to your question. Apparently, by mu you mean millimicron. Perhaps because of a limitiation in the formula editor for posting your message, you were not able to write the Greek symbol for micron.dubblea_8.jpg The "m" in front of the above symbol represents one-millionth of a micron, that is, 10^-6 micron.

The symbol IU is much easier to write in this forum, and means "International Unit." Unfortunately, the IU is not really a standardized international unit that can apply to any substance equally. It is not a part of the SI system (metric system of units), that is based on units of ten from the exceeding small to the exceedingly large, and which is firmly standardized across all chemical substances.

For example, 1 IU means something different depending on the substance. Here is a revealing list of well known substances and their different definitions for 1 IU:

  • 1 IU for Insulin = 45.5 micrograms pure crystalline insulin.
  • 1 IU for Vitamin A = 0.3 microgram of retinol or 0.6 microgram beta-carotene.
  • 1 IU for Vitamin C = 50 micrograms of L-ascorbic acid.
  • 1 IU for Vitamin D = 0.025 microgram cholecalciferol.
  • 1 IU for Vitamin E = 0.667 microgram d-alpha-tocopherol.
The reason for this range of values for the IU is its being based on a measured biological effect for each of these substances. That is, 1 IU has a different magnitude of physiological effect depending on the substance (often a drug, hormone, vitamin, or medicine).

Now, what I am going to say might be a disappointment to you: You cannot relate the millimicron to the IU no matter what substance you are describing. The reason is they are in different categories of measure. The millimicron is a metric system of LENGTH. The IU is based on measures of MASS. To convert one to the other they need to be in the same category of measure, length to length, or mass to mass. One COULD convert quantity of length to a quantity of mass, but only if you first convert either length to mass, or mass to length; but that would require the very inconvenient use of additional data, such as surface area and density of the substance of interest - a consequence too impractical for common use.

GE Spacemaker Microwave Blown Fuse replaced still no power

If you measure across the varistor leads with it still in the circuit, you should measure around 100-300 ohms, which is the DC resistance of the primary of the low voltage transformer.

If you read infinity / open the primary of the low voltage transformer is bad.

If the varistor is bad, it will be shorted and usually it will be cracked or split. This is a much simpler way to test the varistor.

Have you checked the magnetron thermal cutout (TCO) (or thermostat if so equipped) and the oven TCO? These are the leading causes of a dead GE when the fuse is okay.

You didn't mention the model number. What is it?

Please reply back here if you still need help.

We're happy to help you. Once we have all your information and offer a final solution, we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
