Grinds all over the place and in coffee

When I pour coffee grinds go into cup. when I open the area where filter goes there are coffee grinds all over the place.

Just an idea, but you could use a turkey baster to remove some of the water first. I doubt if you've harmed the coffee maker.

SOURCE: over flow grounds without a cause

I have had two of these machines (warranty return) and they both did the exact same thing. Here is what I have discovered the problem to be.

The lid for the carafe gets stick and internally jams. As another poster suggested clean it thoroughly (this sometimes works). I have another solution. Call 1-800-726-0190 and explain that you lid jams and leaks all over your counter. They will send you an new lid for free no questions asked. They obviously are very aware of this situation and don't even ask for proof of purchase or purchase date.

I found out that internally the water line that comes off of the heating element is made of a rubber/silicon material. The heating element is so hot that it scorches or dryrots the tube and it cracks causeing leaking. Sometimes it comes pouring out and other times it just is enough to make it a pain. I have taken the time to get my specialized screwdriver set and take off the bottom of the pot, but have not been able to find a replacement tube for it. (They also made the tube so that you dont have enough to cut the broken end off and put it back on and if you COULD do it, they also put an "X" in the original tube so if you cut it and try to put it on you cannot push it on far enough. Other than this, it was a great coffee brewer for me for the past four years. (Put baking soda and water paste on the coffee stain if you have formica counters. A few times of doing that and the stain will come clean)

It sounds like the release at the bottom of the basket was not open when you put the pot in to receive the coffee. You might check the release on the basket by takin the basket out, putting water in the basket and tripping (pushing up) on the botton on the bottom to see if the water flows through. It could be clogged.
You should clean the coffee maker about every 30 pots of coffee to keep scale from gathering in the heating tubes.

Coffee overflowing onto the counter is a common complaint found in response to many automatic drip coffee makers. The following are potential solutions that can be used to rule out "operator error" vs. a defect or malfunction:

1. Do not "pack" or otherwise overfill the cone/basket with grinds.
2. Ensure you are using the correct grind for an automatic drip coffee maker, neither too fine nor too course. (See instruction manual.)
3. Do not overfill with water. Use the carafe to pour water into the reservoir. This is because a "cup" in coffee terms is defined as 6 oz, not 8 oz. Note: Some coffee makers define as little as 5 oz as a cup.
4. Make sure the filter cone/basket clicks into place and that the carafe is centered and pushed all the way in.
5. Try a permanent filter rather than a paper filter or vice versa.
6. Only use the correct permanent or paper filter (see manual).

Grinds in coffee cup


You're putting to much coffee grinds in the filter. Or to many filters. Or drain cup plunger is not open enough to allow water through like when it was new. If this is happening, water is not getting out and bowl is filling up fast pushing water over the filter and down the sides of inside of cup, finally through the plunger. After u make coffee and replace the old filter look in cup. If you see grinds then you will now know.

I have a FTX49 Mr Coffee Maker purchased 9 months ago. It just started to leak in the front area where the round burner casing meets the tall front face of the unit (the groove area on both sides??) What...


There is a lever in the back of the carafe area that pivots and controls a spring loaged valve on the bottom of the removeable filter basket. This lever breaks easily. Pull the filter basket out and you can see the lever hanging down into the carafe "bay". (assuming it's not broken off entirely).

When you pull the pot out during brewing, the lever swings forward and allows the valve on the bottom of the filter basket to close. This shuts off the flow of coffee to avoid drips. The plastic lever is held in place underneath the valve by two round tab "ears". One of these ears can break off, causing the level to hang at an angle. This means the filter valve never completely opens, even if the pot is pushed in all the way. During brewing, the filter basket can't drain into the pot fast enough and overflows.

I fixed mine by going ahead and removing the damaged lever and then wedging the valve open. The spring loaded valve has a little drip "Spout" which hangs underneath the filter basket that directs the coffee into the pot. You can push in on the back of the drip spout and wedge something into the two slots at the back to hold the valve open. This let the coffee flow freely during brewing.

My miele espresso maker dispenses too much water in my espresso. how do I fix this?


If you fill two esspresso cups at the same time it should be the correct size. But if it is weak, see below...
For one cup, press the small coffee button to start. Press the button again when the desired amount of espresso is in the cup to stop the flow. if it is too watery but the correct amount see below.

If the espresso is too weak push the coffee grinds slide switch inside one notch finer and make another 3 cups. If the flavor does not get strong in 3 cups then there is an anomaly happening. The brew unit upper filter has gunk clogged behind it to a point where the pressure (230psi) of hot water trying to get through the gunk pierces a small channel through only a portion of the filter screen. All the water is running through only 4 or 5 holes in the filter screen. This eddy allows hot water to pass most of the grinds without extracting flavor. It's the same as if you clogged a sink strainer then pushed the blockage off part of the strainer. The water goes around the coffee not through it. The path of least resistance.

Remove the upside down stainless steel filter on the brew unit- Remove the screw using the allen key that came with the machine. It goes through the little finger nut on the top of the brew unit. Turn it counter-clockwise (lefty loosy) and the filter will come off from underside. The area behind the filter screen has to be cleaned of any coffee residues. Also check thew creme valve. It is under spring tension accessible from the top of the brew unit by removing two screws holding the long pipe on top. be careful not to let the spring shoot out and loose the creme valve. It looks like a plastic rivet on the other end of the spring. Clean out the entire channel by rinsing. Use a pipe cleaner for dried on grinds.

Note: the finer you set the grinds the quicker it clogs the filters. Increase the use of cleaning tablets when you grind finer coffee. A clogged brew unit is almost impossible to clean even for the most handy of people and the last I checked a new brew unit is well over 200 bucks! Good luck!

How old is the coffee being used? Normally if you change baskets, the grind should be the same, because the single basket has finer and less holes in it than the double basket. The only difference would be the tamp then, since the coffee grinds works great with the double basket. You would also have to use a different volume of water to produce the coffee. To produce 2 ounces of espresso you need about 3 ozs of water,(about an ounces of water will remain in the coffee).

Coffee grinds on K cup holder


try removing the K-cup holder and inspecting the bottom hole opening. This is where the bottom of the K-cup holder would go through. Sometimes grounds can rest on that edge and fall into the coffee. I hope I could help!
