Problem with antivirus or firewall

Hi, I don't know who I am writing to, but thank you anyway.
I have Dell laptop Inspiron. Windows XP Home Edition SP2. McAfee came originally with it. I didn't like it and deleted it. I always had Kaspersky and after the last key died I decided to change it to another antivirus. Tryed Panda. During the installation it would always say every time "can not install... you have to uninstall McAfee virus scan". I deleted McAfee long before that! Tried many times, finally found two dills of McAfee and deleted them. That's when all started. I Installed Kaspersky from the website and it won't install: "the installation prematurely ended because of an error"... Any firewall, the native one from Dell or Sygate won't work, it has been blocked with something. I can not make it work. The blue screen came a few times. I tried to reinstall Windows XP, but my CD is too old. So, now I have no antivirus and no firewall, great! And don't know what to do. Could you help me?! Please!..

Hi Tanya!Looks like you have some registry entries left..you can delete them as follows..
Click start->run->type regedit
When the registry editor opens click on edit ->find->type mcafee
When you find something just press del..Keep pressing F3 until you get a message finished searching thru the registry..
The try installing norton..If it still doen't work then you might have been infected with some kind of virus..If this is the case restart the computer in safemode and try to install.Post back the status so that we can help you resolve this issue..

Hey Tanya
when you say you deleted Mcafee from the system-is that through the add/remove program or did you use the Mcafee removal tool to remove it.In case you just removed it from the system without the removal tool,then i believe the Mcafee entries are still present in the registry and they are not allowing you to install another anti virus.
Well,about your problem-if you are looking to install windows back on-then i suggest you can just run the ghost image-Dell computers come with a hidden partition which has the factory installed image(which means that you may get back the Mcafee software which came with your computer).But you will lose all the data that you've stored on the system.
Think about it.In case you have other plans i suggest you do a system restore to an earlier time-say before the Mcafee removal and then use the removal tool to remove Mcafee.
Regards
Tabrez.

I have a Dell Inspiron B130 Laptop that I'm trying to connect wirelessly. It's not recognizing our home wireless network but my husband's laptop does. What can I do?

Hi,

First of all make sure that your antivirus software firewall is not blocking it.
I suggest you uninstall all the antivirus softwares your pc has completely first and then restart your pc and see if your laptop recognizes the wireless internet.

let me know the result.

Thank you for using fixya.

Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop won't boot up

Hi,
Pleae reboot your system and when you see the Dell logo , press the F12 key a couple of times .
In the menu, select only HDD diagnostics and post the results back . If the harddrive fails, then the only solution would be to replace the same. If the hardrive passes , we may be able tp fix the system

Thanks
