Lg 42ld520 clicking on and off

I have an LG 42LD520 LCD TV. Over the last few months, it was clicking off and on. It's now permanently off. I opened it up. The capacitors are not swollen. I'm thinking about replacing the power supply. Is that the right fix?

Hi, capacitors don't have to be swollen to be faulty, i would test them first, use a esr meter if you have one, or use a meter with capacitance test on it or might be best to look for tech in your area hope it helps

Power supply may have failed, or main board, or backligt inverter board shorted out and caused the power suppl to go into shutdown.
You need to inspect the power supply and ake the voltage readings.

SOURCE: I need the 4 digit code for my LG 42LD520 in

Here you can find almost all the Universal remote codes
http://kbase.x10.com/wiki/Universal_Remote_Code_List
you can also manually find it follow your universal remote control user guide If after trying "Direct Code Entry" your device does not respond, or if your brand is not listed, try doing a search of the code library for your code by following these steps.

  1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.
  2. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  3. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks once, then stays on.
  4. Press the CHANNEL UP button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  5. Press and release MUTE to install the code. The indicator light goes off.

Most users will want to store VCR codes under the VCR button, Cable codes under CBL, etc. If you want to store a VCR code under CBL, etc., first follow the procedure for Direct Code Entry and press CBL in step 2 of Direct Code Entry, then enter ANY VCR code in step 3 of Direct Code Entry. Then follow the steps above for Code Search.

SOURCE: channel scan only finds 1

the LG will scan several tuning bands TV, DTV, CATV, CADTV
you must let it work through all of these in programming mode.
use the channel up and down button to see just what it has picked up.

the Manual Channel menu will allow you to add or delete what channels you want to surf.

if your programming in unsuccesful, unplug the TV (power) for five seconds then plug back in (reboot)
and attempt the complete setup all over again.
if it still fails, your tuner is bad...which means you need a new main board.

If you are using a satelite system...just unplug the satelite receiver for 30 seconds and plug back up. Try unpluging the TV and check for the mute function...it may be off. Also go to the sound menu in the TV and be sure the speakers are on. The worst problem is a main signal board.

Lg 42ld520, audio is ok, picture has issue. While watching a program, screen became darkened, horizontal lines, wavy split images. Repairable or replace? any guidance would be appreciated.

90 percent of the problems with flat panels comes down the power supply board. Without this actually in my shop there is no way to know for sure but I would try that. If you take the back off you will find the main PS board. Get the numbers off of the board and do a search for the replacement. A great resource for this is Allied Electronics. I use them all the time. The price of the board should be pretty inexpensive so no losing much if you try it out. Good luck.

42LD520 sound shorts out

if it has a headphone jack it could cause this--the jack when inserted cuts off the speakers to engage a headphone--try inserting a jack when it does this and wiggle it a little--jack socket has leaf contacts that can be out of position

If tapping it could also be a bad solder connection somewhere.

Lg 42ld520 red light comes on and blinks a few times then the blue light comes on and nothing happens no picture or sound

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience.

I have an LG 42LD520-UA and it doesnt do anything no lights nothing just wont turn on

AC out is good? Otherwise check the main AC fuse on the power supply module, see picture here:

The fuse is located on the top right (white cylinder with red band), the fuse is soldered in.
