A good quality sharp blade may make all the difference in the world, but make sure the belt is not slipping first.
What are you cutting ? Do you have enough HP ? Make sure you're feeding the material properly, not too fast
or not too slow. I suggest you to check the Carbon blades from sawblade.com .

I was cutting a plywood and pulled the saw back through the cut, before the blade came to a complete stop. Now it will not turn on. Is there a reset switch or a failsafe that tripped when I did that?

Good afternoon Rebecca.

Some of the answer will depend on your make/model. Saws will generally have some failsafes inside to keep them from getting damaged, but lets start with what you have. You say you pulled the blade back through the cut before the blade came to a stop. That was probably OK - you generally don't want to stop the saw in the middle of material since it might pinch or jam against incoming wood.

If there is not motion, the foremost question is whether it's a saw problem or a power problem. To that end (please be careful here - unexpected saw starts can hurt you very badly)
  1. With the saw unplugged, can you move the blade at all? There may be a fair amount of resistance through the worm gear to the motor, but it should move. If it's totally jammed, you may want to try removing the blade and checking for debris jammed in the saw
  2. If the saw is plugged into another outlet that you know has power, will it turn on? If not, focus on the saw, if it works, focus first on the outlet.
  3. Is there power to the outlet? Plug something else that you know works into the outlet and see if it will turn on. If not... check if it's a GFI outlet and try resetting the breaker buton in the middle of the outlet. Then check the breaker panel that serves that plug and see if a breaker tripped. this could be particularly possible if it's a 15 amp circuit and you were, say, cutting a heavy thickness of plywood. Try re-setting the breaker then and see if the outlet turns back to life.
Some saws may have an overheat breaker, which will require you to just let the saw cool for a while. others may have a fuse, but the location will depend on the particulars of the model.

Hoping this helps.
Good Luck!

My saw stops rotating during cutting

does the motor stop? If not the gears are worn between armature and spindle. If it does stop you could be applying too much pressure trying to cut with a blunt blade or there is an armature fault.

Hi, My Stihl TS400 with 14"

Racing on a 2 cycle engine is usually a sign of a lean condition. It could be caused by a few different things including a bad crank seal or a torn intake manifold as some are made out of rubber. I would remove the cutter arm then pull the muffler to inspect the cylinder and piston. If they are scored it will be a costly repair.

Motor stops during shredding

Have you ever oiled the machine???
When does it stop...with just 1 sheet????
Put some shredder oil onto the cutting blades first and see how that helps.

My horn turns on anytime during the day or night. What could be wrong? I have to tap or hit the middle of the steering wheel hard several times in order for it to stop.

You have a slight short or wires exposed or getting pinched. I would start by taking off the plastic cover located around your steering consol where your window wiper and turn signal stick is. The short is prob. under there look for exposed or pinched wire and put electrical around it. Good Luck!

Cutting stair stringers with circular saw

the start of the cut is starting to close up and pinch the back of the blade once you have gone past centre,if the blade is past the starting edge you can tap a small wedge into the start of the cut and that will stop it .I AM AN EXP SAW PERSON TO PROVE IT I ONLY HAVE A THUMB, AND ONE REATTATCHED FINGER ON ONE HAND .that happened on a bench saw only the back of the saw blade lifts the wood and for some reason i pushed it back down,DUMB ..Be careful and think before you do , But a wedge will solve your problem

WHen cutting a 2x4 the chop saw will cut 1/2 the board and the blade stops rotating. we start again and it goes a 1/2 inch and stops rotating again.

Is the blade secure on the arbor, or is the motor itself bogging down?
If the motor is bogging down, make sure you let it come up to speed before making your cut...then let the blade do the cutting, instead of forcing it through the material. Also be sure the material is securely resting against the fence and the base of the saw, so as not to pinch in the middle of a cut.
Make sure you have a good power supply to the motor, and not a long skinny extension cord or the like.
I guess it's possible, if the saw is older or has been under heavy use, that the brushes are worn out and need replacing, but it's also possible the motor is just worn out. (Altho I have rarely if ever seen this occur.)
If you rule out operator error and power source, and the brushes are good, and of course the blade is sharp and clean, the I guess the motor must be at fault, and should be checked at a local service center.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!
