Hi I'm Jerome Jacobs.appliance repair technician. It would appear that your toploader is not levelled.you also would want to open your drain pump to see if anything like a hairpin or so is stuck there.remove all debris from the pump but be sure to unplug your toploader to prevent a shocking experience.Your machine also have a selector which is in a white plastic covering it would be wise to open it to see if the plates are making contact.lastly, you may want to look at the gears situated right behind the agitator wheel.its the one attached to the pulsator/carousel driven by the fanbelt.Hope this will help you to sort out your problem

I've got the same problem; I had a look "under the hood" and it would appear the "clutch" system (not sure if a washer's got a clutch?) is making the noise. There's a spring pulling only halfway and then flicking back again, causing the noise. Is there any straightforward fix for this?

Does it knock all the time? Have you tried it empty? Have a look at the springs or shock absorbers, maybe one is broken or the weight attached to the drum, is it secure and properly located? Check for play in the drum bearing by moving the inner drum side to side against the outer (and also listen to see if anything is trapped).

11 year old Kenmore washer fills then stops.

in the machine under the front control panel will be a module that controls the wash agitation. Have it checked out as they fail . There is no connection between the timer and this unit as it comes in to play when the water reaches a set level. The timer just keeps working through the cycles believing the washer is agitating.

You probably have a bad bearing at the bottom of the tub or damage to the gearcase.

The drum suspension rods may be worn or one of them may be brocken, throwing the drum out of balance.

They are fairly easy to change if you know how to open the top hatch. Check and remove them individually.

Whirlpool direct drive top loader will not spin

Hi, Is the humming noise coming from the timer area? Do you know if it agitates ok?
When you have it in spin cycle, Try lifting the lid and see if the hum stops.
The reason for these questions is that on this model, if it drains the water out but does not spin, it is either lid switch, coupler, or transmission.
If it's the coupler, it will not agitate either.
Please let me know so I can assist you further.

Thanks

Check your lid switch, some machines stay running when you add clothes when it agitates, but will shut off if you lift the lid in rinse and spin, lid switch may be broken.

Drain/Spin won't work unless lid is lifted up

Curdy, it almost sounds like your lid switch is loose or fractured and the lid actuator is not making the switch. Check this out first and post back...Catriver.

Spins when it feels like it

Popcorn, sounds like you are having trouble with the lid switch. The plastic housing in which the screws hold the switch to the cabinet may have cracked, or came loose. If the lid switch is not making correct contact the result is no spin, no drain. The switch actuator on the lid itself may need adjustment. The lid switch is mounted to the cabinet on the back right side under the consol. The lid switch part number is 8054980. But check the actuator first. Catriver..post back.
