When I turn on my camera it state unable to read memory card and gives you the choice to format. I have used the card and do not want to format it.

This is likely due to the memory card being damaged or it losing a part of data. The only solutions are either to purchase a new memory card, or to save the data from the memory card onto a computer or another location and then format it.

My camera just suddenly won't read the memory card. I use an card reader in my PC, all was fine, down loaded photos off the card, put card back and bam! no card says the camera!! Help!!

Hi there, please remove the card & check it's locked or unlocked. If unlocked and you face the problem then scan the card by updated antivirus. If your card virus infected then camera can't read the card. So what you do now, format the card and then fix it back in the camera. And try to on . Hope you no face the problem then. Another reason if your card finish his life longer working capacity then error also come in camera display.
Thanks & waiting for your feedback.

Will not recognize memory cards and can not format no pins bent, tried new cards

Hello Sir

# Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
# 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
# 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
# 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
# 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
# 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

What do i do when I turn on my sony alpha 100 and it tells me unable to use but I formatted it and it still says unable to use???

It's most likely a problem with the memory card. This message comes up when the card sustains damage to any degree. Did you lend your camera or card to anyone or put the card into the wrong reading drive by accident? It may be time for a new memory card/stick. Exchange it if it's still under warranty.

When I inset my memory card into my camera it reads memory card requires formatting. What does this mean? used several memory cards they all say the memory needs formatting, i'm screwed

Hi,

if you used already different kinds of memory and it has the same problem and no changes happen.
i think the probem is in your camera maybe you can bring your unit to a service center and try to ask them to reformat or reprogram it for you.

thanks,

Sony Alpha 100 gives error message when attempting to take pic.

Hi! I just had the same problem with my Sony A100, when I tried two different CF cards. I was getting the same error message as reported above: "Unable to use card" then "Format?" then that format fails. Thinking the camera is broken, I checked online camera repair sites and also called Sony directly. Sony's flat rate, and that of PrecisionCamera is $228 to fix CF card failure. Then my daughter said, "the CF card in my room works fine in the camera" - and lo and behold - it does. The CF card that works is brand PQI and is marked Hi-Speed 60 2Gb. The cards that do NOT work are marked SanDisk Ultra II 1.0Gb and SanDisk 128 Mb. So my advice is, before you give up on the camera as broken, try a number of different CF cards first.

The second cause of CF failure is if someone has pushed a CF card in the wrong way. That can bend one or more of the tiny metal contact pins in the CF socket in the camera. Look carefully to see that all the pins are straight up. [I don't know how one can straighten these pins, or if the whole socket would need to be replaced...but at least you can determine the cause of the CF failure.]

Best regards - Michael
