Oven I do not understand how the oven works, it only has hi and low settings.How do I set the oven for 180 degrees centigrade

By the way, to me, 180 degrees Fahrenheit seems a very low temperature for baking a cake. You didn't mean 180 degrees Celsius did you?

your correct, circo therm approx ten minutes quicker 160 degrees equates to 180 c cooking temp.

0 degrees C is freezing and 100 degrees C is boiling

Most oven knobs don't have dual settings if it's centigrade it usually goes to around 250 c if it's fahrenheight it will go to around 450 f.

The thermostat is the cause of the problem, normally the the only cure is to replace the oven thermostat,completely, or alternatively, compensate by setting a lower temperature when cooking.
this will work o/k if it is always the same variation in temperature across the range .

First you have to understand in thermostat there are Fahrenheit & Centigrade degree. If Centigrade between 16 to 30 and if it is Fahrenheit 60 to 86.
If you press the symbol ther> and > (or) ther- and ther+ at a time degree will change.
Now you set your temp +10 degree from your room temp and also keep "heat" mode.

It sounds as if an element in the oven is not working do check again that the oven thermometer is on same scale as the oven settings farenheit or centigrade.Most likely it is an element fault.

Andrew, first check to see if you have the control set for centigrade instead of Farenheit. You can find the instructions by clicking on the oven icon just above your post. The owners manual will come up. If that is ok, check to see that the element is getting 240 V. I assume you meant 450 degrees instead of 45. Catriver.
