From my research, I have gathered that it is easier to switch out the circuit board into the unit with the good screen, than to replace the screen. The aluminum tape, which reduces interference between the unit and other electronic devices, can be purchased on eBay for cheap. Many sellers have self-adhesive rolls, or smaller pieces, given one's needs.
It sounds as though you are good with tools and know what you're doing. If you were abvle to remove the circuit board from the unit with the cracked screen, you are obviously able to replace it into the case with the good screen. Although I did do a lot of research for you, I was unable to find detailed instructions that would walk you through the screen removal process.

I have a Tomtom Go910 and noticed recently that the battery wasn't charging in the car. Now it's totally dead and only the green light comes on when I plug it in to the mains or car charger. I tried the reset button which has worked for me in the past but to no avail.
