Joanne, when you take the screws out of the handle, and take the handle half off to expose the switch, the black wire from the handle cord goes on the front terminal on the switch that is by itself. The black wire from the power cord will go on the terminal that is facing up as you look down on it. Hope this helps!

Where do the wires go when i am wiring a garbage disposal using a tw o pole toggle switch

The garbage disposal shoud have three wires a green wire goes to ground,

the white wire is neutral, and the black wire is your hot. at the switch, the white

neutral wire feeds straight to the garbage disposal as does the ground, many

times the switch will either have two screws one gold and one silver and the

green is designated as ground. hot goes to the gold screw and the black wire

coming from your disposal goes to the other screw. make sure to turn off power

before working on electrical wires check with voltage meter, its not like working

on your car, if shocked it can be fatal, if unsure handle wires with insulated tools

or gloves. good luck!

How do you disassemble the handle to replace the power cord. I've removed the handle from the body of the vacuum, but don't want to break any plastic covers trying to pry them off to access the power cord...

bad news to you.(don't get mad at me please). 2 prong means is a "DOUBLE INSULATED" vacuum. any electrical repairs are not recommendable other by a shop because after repairs they have to test for grounding with a special meter to prevent electirical shocks. for that reason I personally can not give advice on how to do it. if you want to take the risk, well.... good luck to you. I do this for your safety and ours. I hope you understand my position.

Sebo has become erratic in electrical power and today I have sparking from the top of the electrical lead where the wire goes into the handle. Can this be fixed?

yes it can be fixed.

If you are handy or someone in the house is handy you may even be able to do this yourself.

All that is required is to remove the one screw out of the handle there near where the cord goes into the machine. Cut the cord off the unit about 2 inches from the handle.
Open up the handle and follow where the cord goes to, and disconnect the cord from the switch. Both the white and the black will go to the switch.
Feed the cut cord through the handle.
Bare off about 1 and 1/2 inches of the cord you just cut, bare off the black and white and replace onto the switch.
Reassemble everything and you should be ready to rock and roll again.

Good luck.

My beater bar doesn't work on my power nozzle

Hello,

This could be caused by a few problems. I happened to notice a different repair that you posted about your Sidekick handheld power head also not working. Is this correct that you have two motorized attachments that don't work? If this is the case, this sounds like your electrical hose has gone bad, and has a short circuit somewhere inside of it.

You may verify this by using a simple Continuity Tester that you may pick up at any Hardware store. Simply place one of the testing prongs into the wire harness at the end of the hose that connects into the wand, and the other arm of the tester on one of the prongs that plugs into the wall. If the tester doesn't light up, move the one prong into the other electrical connection on the end of the hose that connects to the wand.

If neither one of these ports lights the tester up, then this indicates your hose has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately there's really no way to repair the hose once it has a short circuit.

Here's a link to a replacement hose on our website that will work with your Electrolux Central Vacuum:
http://www.govacuum.com/elcevareho30.html

If you do have continuity in the hose, then try pushing the reset button on the power nozzle (small red pole on the right hand side). If you indeed however do have two different attachments that don't turn on, chances are most likely that your hose needs to be replaced.

I hope this was helpful to you in answering your question. If this helped, please be so kind and rate my repair helpful, or leave feedback for me. This is really appreciated by the Fixya community when an answer was able to fix your problem.

Thanks again,

Chris Jones

How do I fix an electrical plug on my vacuum

cut it off. go to a hardware store and get a three prong plug which you can install onto the wire.

when you prepare the wire you will see a black wire, a white, and a green.

black goes to the brass screw, white goes to the dull screw and green goes to the green ground screw.

Turn the brush unit upside down, so you can see the brush roller. Then, with the brush roller positioned nearest to you, you will find the reset button close to the rear edge, near the wheel that's on the right hand side as you look at it.
Good luck! I hope this works for you. I value your feedback. Please remember to rate this response.

How to replace the Terminal Cover on top of the Extension Wand

I saw this in another FixYa post

it tells midway down how to get access to the wand fuse (which has the two-prong terminals)
Comment posted on Feb 09, 20082bubbles ok here we go.. fine a small file that will fit the holes at the bottom of the wand and break the file so that the flat end fit into the wand. please make sure the wand is not plug in to anything. now put it into the hole and try to clean it out gently not too hard or you will damage the contacts. after that grab a needle nose pilers and very gently press the contacts. not a lot or it won't fit back into the power-mate. ok now for the top of the wand. if you look at the wand where the button is to extent the wand. on each side you will see a small clip. with a small flat head screw driver push into the clip at the point closer to the wand tube. it will pop out. make sure to check the clip to see how to put it back in. after both clips are out you will notice a that the clips left a gap. the back part of the wand or cover will now slip off. push it toward the gap. then up. after removing the cover. you will see a ribbon strip which is attached to the prongs or fuse .you can remove the fuse and then clean the contacts. please be careful. once this is done you then put it all together and try it out. the fuse is a part that you can buy at sears if you have to. let me know if this helps you out. if it seems like too much just take it to sears and ask them to replace the wand fuse for you instead of replacing the whole wand. hope this helps .
