Dell 0tp412 I have a Dell 0tp412 motherboard with 6 sata connections, however windows (or the board) is only detecting the main 2. I know the drives are good because they detect just fine on those ports. But i need to have all 3 drives (4 counting the dvd) working. Running Windows 8.1

SOURCE: Dell 9200 desktop. New motherboard,

1st question... does the cd-rw recognizes (read) standard cd's... if so it just a driver prob.. if not then find the incidence of the device in the Device manager, delete it and restart thecomputer. Also.. you may go to the dell website and re install any available driver. One last measure... rare but sometimes the connection are loose and not seated properly..

Turn off the computer, unplug, open case push on ALL the connectors and are seated..(including memory)....

If all that fails then its a bad drive... also rare but a lot more common with mass produced comp. It may still be under warranty and at worst ;you may have to pay ship and handling.

pleas email and notify fixya if this helps.

SOURCE: Dell Dimension 5000

you problem is most likely that your bios is out of date. download the latest bios updates for your motherboard and then when you install windows format you HDD with the ntfs system (using the long formatt system not the quick format). Then you should install the bios update. then your mboard shoud no longer have the problem of recognising your large capacity HDD. thanks

SOURCE: samsung sata hard disk detection problem while windows setup

Check your BIOS. There's a setting there to change the Drive controller which allows the SATA drive to be recognized. I believe when I did it I had to change the RAID setting (even though I wasn't using RAID).

Change my gx620 motherboard with ide connector for dvd rom to a 745 motherboard which has sata connection for dvd rom so i purchased a sata dvd rom and sata cable plugged everything in but the dvd rom wont...

With sata there are two cables, just like ide. One is the power and the other is for data. The data cable goes from the device to the motherboard. The power comes from the power supply. If your power supply does not have a sata connection you can purchase an adapter that will turn an available 4pin Molex into a sata connection.

I want to add a second hard drive (SATA) to a Dell insperon 530. Where does it connect to the motherboard?

Every SATA enabled motherboard has atleast 2 SATA ports. Trace the first SATA cable and you'll find another port closer. If your Optical drive is connected to it, and if you can find an IDE port on your motherboard, buy an IDE to SATA convertor and plug it in.

Windows wont start. dont know how it happened.

press F2 to go to the system setup, then press arrow down to highlight Standard CMOS feature, then press enter. Verify if the hard drive is detected, mostly it is installed in SATA 0 and you should see like a serial no of the Hard drive. If the hard drive is not detected, you might need to reseat the cables of the hard drive inside the computer. Make sure that all the cables at the back of computer is unplugged to be safe. After you reseat the hard drive cable, plug cables at the back of the computer then turn on computer and press F2, verify if the hard drive is detected, if still not, try to swap the connection of the hard drive and the dvd drive of the computer. Plug back the cables and turn on comp and press again F2, this time the the dvd drive should be on the SATA 0 and hard drive should be on the oter SATA port. If the hard drive is still not detected, you need to replace the hard drive, but if the hard drive is detected on the other SATA port and the dvd drive is not detected on SATA 0 then you need to replace the mother board.

2 Sata Hdd not supported

Hi rafiqbrush, let me go over a few things for the P5B MB.
There is a total of 5 serial ATA SATA drive ports on the board & one ATA IDE/PATA port.
The 4 main SATA ports are numbered, 1 - 4. Your primary SATA drive must be connected to SATA port 1. Your second SATA drive must be connected to SATA port 3. See page 2-26 in your manual.
All SATA drives are seen as master drives. Once the two SATA drives are connected (As per manual), boot to the bios main menu.
At the main bios menu make sure your bios shows both SATA drives. Than go to the bios title "Boot". Make sure your primary SATA drive 1 is listed in the boot order. Save & exit the bios. (SATA drive 1 must have windows installed on it).

Good luck rafiqbrush!
Thank you for using fixya.
