Question about Vehicle Parts & Accessories

Open Question

Hatch on 2002 vw beetle wont open, with door button or key fob. I have switched the gas tank and the hatch components that are inside the door panel and it did nothing. My gas lid opens fine and the locks (well driver side) work fine. There is no noise coming from anywhere. I have removed the only two screws in the panel under the rear window but have no idea how to remove the two rectangle rubber things that are a few inches from the window. I think I'm headed in the right direction, but don't know where to go from here.

SOURCE: Power Door Locks - 1996 Honda Accord Wagon - Rear Hatch

I had the same problem. A weather mat got stuck when the hatch closed. After freeing the mat, the hatch would not open. The lock button would go up and down, but the hatch stayed locked.
What happened was the the plastic holder for the metal arm that connected the lock button to the mechanism broke.
There are no screws holding the inside panel, just metal tab clips.
First, I took off the inside close handle--2 bolts. Then I had to work my way from the center tail light, unscrewing it and popping off the left and right trim pieces--metal tab clips. These were covering the back panel. Now the hard part was getting the back panel off. It does pop off and I found it very hard to get something behind the edges.
The plastic holder that held the metal connector in place had broke. I used two plastic pull ties to hold the connector in it's place. Reversed the procedure and it works again.

Jeep door wont open with the key

Make sure you have the right key. Check and see if it works in another door or the rear hatch. If it works you could have something rusted or sticking. Does it go all the way in? Will it turn freely both ways? If so then something could be broken inside. If it does not go all the way in or sticks try spraying some WD40 or rust out, or penetrating oil into the key slot. If that does still not work you will have to take the inside door panel off. Hope this helps.

Locked trunk

The release contact switch must be dirty and corroded...you will have to jiggle the rear hatch...when trying to open again...when open spray the hold down bracket, and the under side of the hatch that makes contact...the best spray for this is PB Blaster, available at Walmart auto parts section...this will not hurt the electric contacts...as you still cannot open the rear hatch, you will need to remove the inside panel of the rear hatch to expose the release arm on the inside of the hatch. Hope this helps.

01 vw beetle.battery died.recharged now remote wont lock or unlock doors.lights flash, switch inside works????????

You need to reprogram your key to the car. Also you have to reset the electric windows by putting them fully down..hold button for 5 sec...put fully up and hold for 5 sec.
I cant, of hand recall the reset for the key fob, but i dont think it needs a diagnostic tool, just a procedure.
check out the vw forums...bound to be in there.

Electrical problems with trunk gas door and ac

the first problem with you fuel door is most likely the rear actuating motor or cable. remove the right rear trunk lining, and loosen the 2 silver phillips head screws, and remove the actuating motor. i would suggest replacing both the motor and the cable, as both of these parts have superceeded to a new improved part. the AC problem is caused by a faulty fan control unit. this part not only receives the switch signal and processes the information to control the compressor, but also controls the fans, their speed, the compressor, and the hi/lo pressure switch. both of these parts a a common problem for the beetle.
