Question about Xerox Fuser Maintenance Kit, Phaser 4600/4620, 110Volt 150, 000 Pages

Open Question

Xerox phaser 4620 prints vertical line and sometimes dirty blots on (heavyweight) paper. Is it a fuser or a drum failure? I've replaced the drum cartridge and now it seems ok, but it only happens with the first few printsouts. So the failure may occur again.

SOURCE: Xerox Phaser 6250 started printing bad

That really sounds like the imaging unit cleaner has an issue.
If you have one try the imaging unit, I really suspect that is your problem.
Black is Faded or Missing Step 1 Clean the Laser Windows and Remove Excess Toner From the Imaging Unit Step 2 Check or Replace the Imaging Unit Gear Retaining Pin Step 3 Replace the Imaging Unit (installation instructions) ic-film.gif
See if this link works. Xerox is infameous for these not working.

SOURCE: Black ink is faint

First I would suggest performing any head alignment functions with your printer's menu to be sure you have the stepper motor feed adjusted properly. Use the paper you are currently printing on for this procedure so that the thickness of that paper is factored in.
If you stil see the banding after doing this, you can use the Advanced Media Control button under Printer Settings in ColorBurst to fine-tune the paper feed adjustment. Print out the "Media Advance.tif" target (located in the ColorBurst/images & Targets folder) to use as a guide. For white bands, you'll need to enter a negative number (to shorten the paper feed).

SOURCE: phaser 8560 magenta ink not transfering to paper

Hi jbasset285: Your printhead may be bad do to third party ink.
Try these steps first.
Diagnosing Print-Quality Problems
The Troubleshooting Print-Quality Page provides a good overview of the most
common print quality problems. To print the Troubleshooting Print-Quality Page,
follow these steps:
1. From the Control Panel, scroll to Troubleshooting, then press OK.
2. Scroll to Print Quality Problems, then press OK.
3. Scroll to Troubleshooting Print Quality Page, then press OK.
The Troubleshooting Print Quality Page includes instructions for printing the
Eliminate Light Stripes test print. These instructions are also provided on the next
page of this manual. The Eliminate Light Stripes test print indicates individual weak
or missing jets or an obstruction in the imaging path that affects a vertical band down
the entire page. Also, you may see color variation from jet to jet on the Eliminate
Light Stripes test print. Some variation is normal, occasionally occurs, and usually
self-corrects within a few printed pages. If a print-quality problem is not resolved
with the information provided in the Diagnosing Print-Quality

SOURCE: xerox phaser 6120 laser printer paper jam fuser

Fix, well i am a dentist in Marysville washington and just got this printer from a family member and same thing was going on.
I looks like paper stuck in the middle roller. I just got a small mirror and pair of dental tweezers and removed a lot of jammed paper. it works fine now but you need do go to the dental section in drug store, so you can see where the jam is at.

Xerox 4620 is printing smears all over the page. I replaced the drum but it is still happening. Not sure what could cause this prblem

ask yourself this . Is the paper warm or hot when it has been printed on ?
check fuser unit .
No heat equals unbonded toner on paper equals smearing of toner on paper.

I replaced the cartridge in xerox phaser 3117, but it prints horizontal lines every 8cm. Does anyone has an explaination ?

Sounds weird that all three are having the same issue.
If it would be a hardware problem, it could be either Toner, Drum or Transfer Roller.
On Vertical lines it could also be the Fuser.
Though it sounds unlikely that all three gets the same defect,

I am getting a Laser failure error. I have turned the power off then on again but it keeps coming up with the error. What do I have to do? My serial number is DBY192064

Contact Xerox -- the laser is used to put electrostatic charges onto a drum. Then, the toner ink sticks to the charged spots on the drum, and then the paper is pushed against the drum,
and then the fuser melts the ink into the paper.

So, no laser means nothing gets printed.

Repair or replace the printer -- whicheve is cheaper.

Xerox phaser 7400 I'm getting large black streaks that get larger as the print job continues. Is this the FUSER? or the TRANSFER UNIT?

That would be the drum 99% of the time. A fuser is what heats up the paper and the toner so it will stick properly. If it is "smudging" then its the fuser. But is it is lines sometimes with dots in them that is a bad drum.

Xerox Phaser 8400 problems with vertical alignment

That can be one of two things.
1. There is a drum encoder on the end of the drum motor.that picks up silicon lubricant from the maintenance kit roller. Normally removing it and cleaning it will resolve the issue, sometimes it needs replaced.
2. There is a print head block that can become dirty and not allow the print head to get into the proper printing position, but that most likely would cause an 07,10.043 code and shut down. I really suspect a dirty/contaminated encoder.
The encoder is on the right side of the machine looking from the front, once you locate the drum shaft you will see it. Sort of flush it out with alcohol and allow it to dry, put it back in and you should resolve your problem. If not let me know.
If you need to order one the part number with diagram is on Xerox.com, under downloads and documentation, there is an online parts list for that machine. www.xerox.com

Dirty printing job

Are they lines from one edge to the other in a straight line. Or is it faint reprint across the page?
Thin lines would most likely be a bad drum or cleaning blade.
If it is faint reprint it is the heat roller in the fuser.

How Brave is Jan?

Doubt it be the fuser(100 000life), "just magenta dots".... fuser would be "all smudged" or "black marks" , "the print rubs off" , "paper is creasing or jamming"

Can prove it by stopping a print (open door) when paper is1/2 way threw machine, you need to stop it before it goes threw the hot bit, so you can tell if the hot bit (fuser) puts the marks on the paper.

Transfer roller one would expect to effect whole print Smudged/Faint,uneven density

It will be the imaging unit ( 30 000 pagelife Ouch$ ) or possible leaking toner (if aftermarket)

Remove imaging unit and inspect film you should find image of lines, dots are usually chips or sticky stuff on drum surface, carefull no oily human fingers on surface please.

When stopping machine mid print and perfecting your timing, pull out the imaging unit and look at replica of your print notice if marked and where.

Hope this helps
