You have to check on the switch/sensor at the cover which detects if it is shut or not. Something may have been blocking it and may need cleaning or it could be the switch may have been disconnected to the board because of faulty wiring. If it all checks out, you may want to check on the board there may be a fried part.

    Try these:

    1. open the back cover

    2. pull the flap down which hides an orange roller on the fuser (be carefull this may be hot)

    3. find the thin piece of plastic that runs from the middle to the right hand side. That is the source of the problem.

    4. 3/4 along the right hand side, there is a sticky out bit on this bar that should sit in a hole.
In most cases this is not located properly which causes the error. See if it helps. Otherwise it could be an issue with the board.

Reset brother toner counter mfC 7360N

If you are using refilled products then your re-manufacturer needs to reset the cartridge. For these there is a particular gear placement to allow the toner sensor to reset. If you are using Brother Original products then the brother helpdesk should talk you through this.
If you are filling your own cartridges well any issues you have with this reset process are at your own risk.
Once you have completed the reset process go to the brother website and download the latest firmware update for your machine as this will alleviate most of the issues with cartridges not being correctly set.

I cannot find the slot to replace ink cartridges! Brother LC61CL

Which Brother all-in-one printer or copier do you have? The LC61CL cartridges fit MFC-255CW, MFC-290C, MFC-295CN, MFC-490CW, MFC-495CW, MFC-5490CN, MFC-5890CN, MFC-5895CW, MFC-6490CW, MFC-790CW, MFC-795CW, MFC-990CW, MFC-J410w, MFC-J615W and the DCP-165C . The cartridges could fit other printers as well.

I know that the MFC_795CW has a cover on the right hand side that you need to open when the unit is on. Then the cartridge carrier will move to the ink changing area. (For a new printer, there is a green protector in place that you need to pull out. Keep this in case you move the printer later.) This location applies for the DCP-165C copier as well.

If the unit is on but the cartridge carrier does not move to the opening of the ink cartridge cover, then something may be blocking the carrier from moving. This could be a scrap of paper or other foreign object blocking the route.

Brother has the support for most of their printers available here: http://www.brother-usa.com/Support/ . There is a specific link for just the manuals on the page as well.

More complete trouble-shooting guides are available if you search for your model from the Brother search box at the top right hand corner of the page. Go to the product details page and then see the Brother Solution Center links on the right hand side of the page.

I hope this helps.

Back door open but it is not. what do I do?? The above solution didn't work. Everything seems to be in place.

If every cover had been closed correctly, then sounds like you have a paper jam in the rear.

Brother all-in-one printer not working; error 'back door open'

Open the front cover and remove the drum and toner.

There should be a paperjam in the machine. It reads back cover open because the piece of paper is covering the sensor for the back cover.
