Question about GE DBL333EA Electric Dryer

Dryer won't spin, but heats up - belt is okay

We have a GE dryer (model DCLR333ETOWW) and last week it just stopped spinning. It still heats up when we turn it on and makes a really heinous loud humming noise. We opened it up and the belt is fine and the drum moves when we spin it by hand.

Also, when we turn the timer into the "off" mode now, it keeps on turning on its own and turns itself back on, again with that awful humming noise. Any suggestions are beyond appreciated as I'd hate to buy a new dryer if it's an inexpensive fix. Thanks!!!!

wow, you're awesome!! thanks for the super quick and helpful reply! we just tried turning it on and spinning the drum by hand and it worked. does that mean bad bearings? can we grease them or should we replace them?

it's also odd that we did this process without hitting the start switch - only by turning the timer to a setting. normally, we have to turn the timer and then hit start. now, the humming starts right when we turn the timer. can we be looking at a timer or sensor issue as well?

The motor may have seized up, or the drum bearings are shot.

All ge dryers have a center bearing on the back side of the drum and drum glides on the frontside. The glides make a scrubbing sound when bad and the drum is hard to turn. The rear bearing does a squeak thang when the plastic bearing wears thin and begins to make metal to metal contact between drum mount and rear bulkhead mount. It is an easy fix but the drum gotta come out. here is my pictorial page that shows how with videos and repair pix:

Would a faulty switch interlock stop a dryer from heating?

no. It would stop it from spinning. Now if the dryer isn't spinning then obviously it wouldn't be heating, but if its spinning with no heat the interlock switch is not your problem.
