Question about HEWLETT-PACKARD HP - COMPAQ - 404674-001 (404674001) Motherboard

1 Answer

404674-001 Does it support Core 2 Quads? I know it is LGA 775 but not all motherboards support Quad Core (esp. outside of enthusiast boards and very late model LGA 775 before the switch to the new socket).

Hi Howard Grimberg, I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? the answer depends on which BIOS your m/b has, which in turns depends on the model of computer it came in, and the version of the BIOS that was last updated. So, which model of computer do you have ? What's the version of the BIOS in it ?

Does dual core processor support Foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H mother board

The Foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H motherboard has a LGA 775 Socket. It will support Intel Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Extreme, and Core 2 Duo processors with an FSB of 1066 (800MHz). Thus is should support the dual core 775 processors. (Some Pentium 4, Pentium D and Celeron D CPUs may also be compatible with the board.)

I hope this helps.

1. 1st you have to know if the current mother board will accept the Duo core processor.
2. the i5 processor is newer technology and may have advantages over the Duo core processor such as speed and computational integrity i.e. being able to do more calculations per second also bandwidth . not be able to crash as much due to the amount of programs running.

yes you can upgrade to a quad, as long as its an LGA 775 socket processor, and yes the slower memory will bog down your others, you motherboard will operate the ram at the slowest speeds set in the memory bank

You can also use any other intel 775 socket processor as well. The dual cores are at the top of the list for performance that are compatible with that board, but if you're looking for a cheaper solution, I have that board with a 3GHz pentium 4 and it runs great. Here's a list of all the processors you can use.
Intel Pentium 4 (2.66 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition
(3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Intel Pentium Extreme Edition
(3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 2.80 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel 'Core' Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)
