Try opening the doors and moving it through the doorway with the doors open? If you have the room twisting the fridge around the doorway with the doors open my work.

How do you completely remove the freezer door? There is a waterline running...

Many people often stress over laying a refrigerator or freezer down in the back of a truck in order to move it. It has happened many, many, times that one of these appliances is laid down in order to move it, only to find that the compressor is ruined within a few hours after having plugged the unit back in.

By the same token, it is hard to just dead lift one of these appliances into the back of the truck without tipping the unit on it's side.

The purpose of this trick, or tip, is to avail anyone of what to look for should they need to move one of these unit's.

The reason the compressors fail is lack of oil in the compressor, caused when the compressor is oriented where the oil can go run into the disharge tube which is headed to the condensor coil. Most all modern domestic refrigeration compressors are built as where the enclosure is at the condensing pressure, which is why they get real hot when they run. The high pressure gas is easily pushed into the condensor as the compressor runs. But, if the appliance that the refrigerator is in is tipped over where that tube is on the bottom, then the oil runs in there as well. And when the appliance is stood back up, the piping usually does not allow all the oil to run back into the compressor. If the compressor is started before the oil has a chance to run back, then it get's pushed by the hot refrigerant further into the condensor coil, and on to the evaporator where it becomes cold and thick, to the point that it doesn't want to return to the compressor. This makes the compressor run on low oil, and after doing this for a few hours, it seizes up.

So, in order to lay the unit down, all you need to do is look at the compressor tubing. THere will be three pipes or tubes coming out of the compressor. On eis short, and crimped, then soldered closed. That is the service tubing where the unit is charged at the factory. One is the suction tubing that is the tube returning from inside the refrigerator. And the last is the hot gas discharge tubing, going to the condensor coil. In most all deomestic refrigerators, the suction and discharge tubes come off the same side of the compressor, which is the right hand side of the compressor as you stand at the back of the refrigerator looking at the compressor. That means if you lay the appliance on the left hand side, when standing in the same position, that oil will not have any place to run to, and will stay inside the compressor. You can lay or tilt the appliance on that side all you want, aadn never have any issues when starting the unit up after moving. And you can start tyhe unit up immediatley. You don't have to wait for 8 hours or anything.

Now, if you find you did an oops and laid the applicance the wrong way, then be concerned, there is a way to save the unit. Stand the unit up and wait for 6 hours or so before pluggin the unit in. Plug it in, and allow to run for 2-3 minutes. Unplug, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Repeat this for 8-10 times, then allow it to run for 30 minutes or so. DO this a couple of times, and you should be good to go.

Led light wont come on

When you remounted the freezer door you might have missed or damaged the switch (button) when you moved the unit. Check that and replace it if necessary. That should fix the problem.

How do you transport a fridge?

Upright and empty, take out everything you can, even shelves. And while moving it wear steel toed boots.
Sometimes rubber palmed gloves help, sometimes they don't.
Clean the fridge outside so there is no grease on it. Oil residue from cooking makes them slippery and impossible to control.
If you have access to a small cube van or truck with a headache rack strap it to the walls of the truck or to the rack (Upright).
If you have to move up a stairwell tape quilts and towels to the banister.
Tie the electrical cord and tape it to the motor. The cords tend to come loose and wrap around your legs while going up stairs.

The lift. (not all upright)

Tall man at the back of the fridge.
Shorter guy at the front.

Shorty pushes the fridge towards tall guy tipping it back towards tall guy.
Tall guy puts a foot at the back edge of the fridge and pulls.
Tall guy holds it arms mostly straight holding near the top of the back of the fridge.
Tall guy keeps it balanced as shorty changes grip.
Shorty bends down at knees and grabs the edges at the base of the fridge.
Agree to lift and shorty stands up.

Tall guy walks backwards and leads the way.
Shorty has the heavy end and has to push 90 percent of the weight up the stairs.

It's no fun being shorty.

Communicate your movements.
If you shift that much weight unexpectedly you can seriously hurt your partner.
It's called "Tweaking" someone.
If you're losing your grip SAY SO!
"I'm losing it!"
If you need to re-grip SAY SO!
"I need to get a better grip."

Rest anywhere you have to, rest every third step on the stairs but don't let it fall on your partner.

If you have furniture moving straps or a duck dolly use it.
But if you know what those are you already know how to move a fridge so I stuck to a lift without equipment.

Both of you will have to shift your grip to make it through doorways.

Last of all clear a path and measure every door frame before you start to move the fridge.
Doors may have to be removed, Light fixtures might have to be taken out of hallways or stairwells, screen doors might have to be unsprung, lock up the kids and cats and dogs too.

After you've moved it to it's new location let it sit for 12 hours before you plug it back in.
The oil that crawled out of the motor housing has to drain back down.
Have the beer after you finish not before you start.

Good luck with the fridge move

Freezer is cold, but refrigerator is warm. The fan is running, but I don't feel cold air coming into the refrigerator compartment. There did not appear to be a large amount of frost anywhere, but just...

If the freezer is cold the compressor is Ok. Now if its a two door fridge . Open both the doors while the fridge is On. Press the lower door switch ( the lower light should turn off and you should hear the fan humming sound come on ). While holding the door switch pressed close the freezer door, you should see cold air come out of the slits in the back of the lower compartment. If not icicles have blocked the passages due to the non working of the heating coil. The heating cycle is controlled by the timer switch located near the compressor at the back. Unplug the fridge and remove the timer switch.Note the color of the wires and mark on the old switch. Replace and it will work.Only frost free fridges have heating cycle

Sould not be a problem to remove the door handles. If you look on top of the handle, you will see a large screw. Remove this screw and the handle should come free. Reattach the same way after you move the fridge in place.
