Sounds like a slipping clutch, get it checked out before you ruin the flywheel.

I HAVE A 93 HONDA CIVIC EX VTEC AND IT HAS A D16A6 BLOCK & A D15B7 NON V HEAD I BOUGHT A HOLE BRAND NEW DISTRIBUTOR & SPARK PLUGS THE CAR HAD A P28 VTEC ECU BUT THERE IS STILL NO SPARK I CHECKED WITH A...

I do know that there is a main relay in the car that plays an important role in the car starting/running. I have changed many distributors, thinking that they were deffective. When turns out that relay was Intermittently working causing the car to run one day and not the Next. I do know that heat is a factor because if my car windows were left up and it was burning hot inside the car it wouldn't start, but once it cooled down it would start. Sounds like yours is just completely dead. It costs like $80.00 for the relay but and acura/honda repair shop should have them stocked.... Notoriously known for similar issues your having due to deffective MAIN RELAY

It's a 1990 Acura :) That's your problem. Just kidding! I have a lot of friends with civics who do the same thing. It's a common Honda issue. Don't worry about it. Check your mass air flow and air filter possibly vac lines too

Honda stream rev issue

I think a trip to the Honda dealer is in order here for a full system scan and a fuel pressure test under a full throttle load.

Deciding on buying 2 cars, a 94 accord LX w/ 170K, the engine is so quiet it seems to perfect (its at a dealership). The 95 EX with 122K is not as quiet, has a VTEC engine and is really only loud when I...

Well one easy answer for you. The VTEC enige is unbreakable and will rev higher than you think. When the VTEC kicks in you will get a bit more noise as the enige sucks more air but believe me as long as you keep ontop maintenance wise it will be the best buy.

Honda s2000, 2001 loose of power when vtec engages I get to around 6000 rpm it sputters continues to 9000 rpm.No Engine light or codes. Vtec is working . I removed the solenoid and cleaned, replaced the...

If youe engine is stock - the VTECH should kick in at 5000-5500RPM.
Your car should be Dyno set. Every vehicle is different.

The 5000-5500 is good because if you were to set it down low it would almost be like having a non-vtec motor. If you set it at 6000, and your redline is 7000 then its not going to realy do anything. Again, almost like having a non-vtec motor.

PIC1
PIC2
PIC3

The first two pics are examples of where VTEC should be set earlier to smooth out the curve - the latter is an example of where VTEC should be set later to smooth the line out. You want the least noticeable transition from the non-VTEC to the VTEC lobes on your cam. That's when you'll make the most power at every point in the rev range.

Too early and your engine stumbles while it tries to get into the efficiency range of your big lobe- Too late and you have a huge jump where you could have had more power a few hundred rpm sooner.
The first graph had the VTEC set later (4400rpm) so that I wouldn't be jumping in and out of VTEC all the time on the highway, the second is the stock S2000 (6000rpm) that Honda sets so that the customer can feel the VTEC kick in (sells cars because it's cool, but isn't the best for max power), and the third was just set too early because it wasn't a custom tune.

Hopefully that gives you a more visual explanation of why you want to set your VTEC crossover point on a dyno.

Another suggestion is to unplug the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) and see if the bog persists.

Finally - you may have a clogged cat. Remove the plug for the Throttle body Sensor and check again for the bog.

If no bog under this condition - your cat must be gutted, removed, or replaced.

Thanks!!

I have a 1995 honda accord ex sedan with a 2.2L Vtec and its an automatic im currently in the process of turning it into a tuner... i still havent touched the engine and i tried to see if i could get my...

Take the V-Tec control solenoid off and the base off the cylinder head then go to the dealership and get the parts that replace the gasket to seal the solenoid and the base module to the engine there is a clogged screen for the oil in there and the gaskets are most likely on the verge of leaking anyway. Cleaning this screen gives the 2.2 v tec all the required oil pressure to fix this problem. Most Honda or Acura dealers have these parts in stock yet, there are several different ones per engine family so I suggest that you take the solenoids and base plates with you to match up visually as i have experienced recently with a tuner, they are not all the same. many dealerships have these in stock because it is a common problem. You will see an immediate difference. Although the Honda accord is somewhat less aggressive with the v tec than say a prelude or an acura is. Due to differences in camshaft and cylinder head and intake designs for each car. Accords are typically a family oriented car whereas the prelude and Acura are more the sporty side of the equation.

Vtec check

hi you will know if it works it don,t kick in till the engine reachs a certain rev range usually around 3000 rpm then it transferes to the hi lift cam and when it kicks in will feel like a turbos been fitted. if not you have a problem with it which would likley be a problem with its solenoid or oil pressure. yates210456
