Hi,
Could you elaborate? I have never heard of this... unless you are talking about the Administrator password Windows asks for during install... which you can typically just leave blank and continue the install...

Did a fresh install of Windows XP with new media disk, but after the installation, I can't get past the admin password and log in

Restart the computer. Repeatedly press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options screen appears. Select the Safe Mode option using the up and down arrow keys

then press the ENTER key. Choose "Windows XP Home/Professional" depending on the version of the operating system. Press ENTER. Shortly, the welcome screen should show.

Log in as "Administrator"

Click Yes to not use System Restore Mode.

Click the Start button. Choose Run and type in "control userpasswords" (without the quotes). Click OK

Select the "Administrator" user.

Click Change my password. Enter a new password in the corresponding text boxes.

Click OK. Write this password down and store it in a secure place. I do not recommend that a password hint be used.

Close the User Accounts window and restart Windows.

hope this helps

Hi.

  1. Remove all CDs or DVDs from the optical drives.
  2. Turn off the computer, using the normal Windows shut down process.
  3. After the computer is turned off, disconnect all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse. This includes USB devices such as a printer, scanner, removable storage, or camera.
  4. Turn on the computer. After the Gateway BIOS logo appears, repeatedly press the F8 key. The Advanced Boot Options menu opens.
  5. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to select Repair your Computer, and then press the ENTER key.

  6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, select the appropriate keyboard layout, and then click Next.

  7. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click the down arrow to select a user account that has Administrator rights, then click OK.

Note: The Administrator account is disabled by default.

  8. In the System Recovery Options window, select Recovery Manager.

  9. In the Gateway Recovery Center window, click Next.

  10. In the Gateway system recovery window, select Full factory recovery.

  11. In the All data will be lost window, select Yes, and then click Next.

  12. The Windows partition is formatted and Windows is installed.

  13. In the Recovery is complete window, click Finish.

  14. In the System Recovery Options window, select Restart.

When the computer restarts you will need to set up the laptop again.

Good luck.

My PC is telling me that I don't have permission to install valid software on this computer, and that I need to login as administrator. But I am the admin. on this PC which is one PC of a 2 PC home...

Hello
For the purpose you have to log on as administrator by following these steps
1) Click the Start orb and click on Run (or press the Windows key + R)
2) Type in regedit and press OK. If it asks you to open this via UAP, then
click Allow.
3) In the Registry Editor, navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
4) In the right hand pane, right click the mouse and select New then Key. A new folder should appear in the left hand pane. 5) Name this new key Special Accounts and press Enter.
6) Right click the mouse on the new SpecialAccounts key in the left hand pane, select New then Key again to make a "sub-key".
7) Name this new key UserList and then press Enter. In this new User List key, right click in the right hand pane and select New then DWORD (32-bit) and name this Administrator then press Enter.
8) Double click on the new DWORD you just made, and set the value to 1 then press OK.
9) Restart the computer to see the effects - from the Welcome screen you should be able to login as the administrator any time you wish.
Or this
right click on "computer" and click on manage. click on "local users and groups", click on "users", click on "administrator" and right click, click on properties. toggle the box marked "account is disabled". this should clear this box. now close all windows. in control panel click on "administrative tools", now click on "local security policy". with :interactive logon:" enable "Do not display last last user name", and disable "do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL". now logoff and you are set. when you are in the administrator box you should set a password of your choosing.
Hope it helps, if so do rate the solution
Good Luck
