My Vizio GV42L is fading to a dull whitish color after 2-3 minutes. I can still see the TV program I am on but the screen just goes to a dull whitish color. No boxes or anything popping up. Basical

Either its back light inverter board, or, the LVDS cable has the fault. First try by re-seat the LVDS cable, and check. Thus you can make sure about the fault. If you wish to get more details, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic /Timeslide, can be selected by the drop-down list, by the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name / model number / IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

Color not sharp

Display Panel faults:
Vertical (source) faults are usually within the actual panel (Lines/Bands down Picture)
Horizontal (gate) faults are unually within the actual panel (Bands/Lines across the screen)
Better take it to a service station to check it.

Picture is pink and blue and not clear.

I am going to guess the model number here is correct, sometimes it is not-----that is a older set.

Not 3d looking but washed out or dull looking firstly.

If you go to a unused video input with the color on the set turned to zero what color is the screen? It if correct should be something black and white or grey.

One of the things you can do other than that is from the rear with set not plugged in, clean the 3 large lens==if dusty picture will be darker and dull looking---they are the light source for your picture.

let me know if screen is 3d looking, screen with color off is B&W, and if cleaning the lens helps.

LINES THROUGHOUT SCREEN AND COLOR NOT SO CLEAR AND BRIGHT. Vertical lines on screen and the color is very dull. It's not bright. Is it somehting simple to fix or forget it...? Thanks

It sounds like you are at the end of the useful life of your unit. It is a CRT projection unit and when the colors get dull, picture gets dim and especially when you have lines on the screen indicating retrace problems the CRTs are shot. Cost to replace would be more than new. I would recommend a DLP. Of all the schemes out there I think they are the best looking, least prone to breakdowns and most cost effective. Let me know if you need more help. Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

How to increase brightness of my monitor i put it

Hi, you can try this; in a clear area of the Desktop screen (right)) click, once the desktop window open, click on Personalize, next click on Display Settings. You can adjust the brightness by by doing the following: On the resolution scale adjust from Low>High; you can do this until you are satisfied with the view. In the (Colors) drop box, click the down (Arrow), and choose the "Highest" color (16bits>32bits) etc. Next click to open the (Advance)) settings, click on the (List All Modes) button, once the window open choose the (Highest) settings: example (1366 by 768, True Color (32bit), 60 Hertz. Remember to click the "Apply", and "OK" buttons after each selection or change. "Hope this helps' Ya"

My Toshiba 50H82 television takes about 30 minutes to clear up and during that process, it shakes. It becomes clear but still has wavy lines at the top of the screen which is about 6 inches.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture
