    yeah it's really awkward..but i experienced it..here's the story..my monitor before had a color problem and i found out the cable is the culprit..it's fix on the board and cannot find a replacement so i looked for a junked monitor and took the cord, replaced the old one and worked!!but when my CPU(w/o graphic card) gave up and bought a new one with graphic card my monitor didn't work so i went back to where i bought it had it replaced and installed using their monitor and it's fine..but when i got home and connect my monitor, the problem is still there..i then took it to a nearby PC shop and it's ok again but at home my own monitor doesnt work!!i was disappointed and puzzled but it came to my mind that it is probably the monitor so i brought it to my friend and connect it to his monitor and bingo it's ok!!i then bought a new monitor and the problem is gone!!

    P.S.
    you said how a monitor not support the card, but how about a card not supporting the monitor?

Card didn't work while fan is running

That is a really low end video card. The same card is available for $10-30 on bidding sites. Get another one or upgrade to something with more horsepower if you like games or watch video. Just make sure your motherboard will support the new video card. THe one you looks to be a standard PCI (older format).

If you're having trouble on display in your monitor,please check the following;

1. Check your CPU if its responding,booting or the power light indicator is running.
2. Check the video card slot pin if its align and clean,as well as the serial/com cable connected ion both ends.
3. Try to replace another video card, might the current attached is damage.
4. Check all cords and see if there's some intermittent lines neither need to replace new cord.

No display

Hi st_niclaus,
(Note: ASRock does not list the FX 5500 series AGP graphics card on their web site).
To confirm this please see the VGA supported list at ASRock, click this link:
http://www.asrock.com/mb/vga.asp?Model=775i65gv&s=775&c=VGA
There is an order that should be followed when upgrading from using the onboard video to the AGP card.
Check your bios setting. See Init. Graphic Adapter Priority page 27 & 28 in manual.
Set to: [AGI/PCI/Onboard].
Also see instructions on how to install, AGI slot: on page 17.
AGI = ASRock Graphics Interface.
If your display still does not function after making these changes, it is possible your FX 5500 is not compatible with your board.
(Suggest you buy one from the list provided by ASRock's supported link above).

Good luck st_niclaus!
